He felt an atmosphere of animosity all around him. He felt all alone fighting the battle, fighting for the good but fighting all alone. He fought on a deserted side and on the other side awaited an army of heart-less beasts ready to feed on him. He felt the hostility encircling his poor soul. Subconsciously he was getting ready for an ambush without any hope of withstanding it for long. There was doubt in his mind, fear in his heart. Fiery glares and harsh remarks were thrown at him. Yet he did not budge on his stance, in what he believed was morally right. At one point his comments put the whole crowd to shame. There was a silence of utter disbelief that transformed to a silence of hopeless fury – a dead air of hatred. His instincts warned him that if one of them started to bark at him, others would follow pursuit, he would be crushed soon. He started to panic. Loneliness started to creep in his heart. He had no defense other than his voice. Hatred and sarcasm were the norm in the past couple of hours. His spirits were being brought down at a faster rate. Doubt whispered in his mind yet again, questioned if he was right. But deep inside of him something told he was on the right track - that he just have to keep going.
And then, he looked up and saw - from deep within the blazing complaints and icy stares, a set of ordinary eyes looking back at him with an immeasurable warmth of comfort - an assurance that he was not alone. There was somebody who shared his belief, his understanding. An unfamiliar set of eyes with yet so familiar gaze that suddenly filled him with deep consolation and a strong urge to fight back.
A Stranger among the beasts, an Unknown friend among a horde of enemies. A connection was made with a glance so powerful that he mustered up all his courage and fought back fiercely. He was totally surprised by the immense surge of confidence that boosted up his mind. His words were like water on their fire, storm on their ships. The scales started to tip on his side. The battle of words was being won, the battle is theirs’s now – to him and to his unknown friend who gave a promising look that he is not alone anymore.
