in frugality •  6 years ago

These past few years we have been bombarded by information and recommendations to choose a more minimalist lifestyle. People who used to be addicted to shopping and owning as much stuff as possible have taken this turn in their lives and are happier than ever. So, why become a minimalist? Why is minimalism so important and why is it the source for ultimate happiness? Well, we hope to give you the answers to these questions in this article. So, keep on reading!

Money, money… money

The first reason for choosing a more minimalist lifestyle is the possibility of saving more money. When you live a more intentional lifestyle, you become aware of the things you have and the things you need. This lifestyle teaches you so say ‘no’ more often and stop impulse buying which is harmful to your budget and wallet.

More time for YOU

We live in a very dynamic world. Everything around us moves with speed, and we have this desire to keep up. But is it healthy? Not really. By choosing a minimalist lifestyle, you save time which you can dedicate for your family and friends or yourself. Less shopping, less clutter in your home, less time spent on cleaning - means more happiness.

Freedom and flexibility

When you choose a minimalist lifestyle, it means you start enjoying more what you already have and lock your desire for owning things just because they are trendy. Having complete control of your money means that you will be able to keep up with your monthly financial commitments and save the rest which you can use to travel more, for example.

Buying the good stuff

When you start living intentionally, and you value your hard-earned money you will become pickier when it comes to buying new things. Nobody said that when you become a minimalist, you will stop shopping forever. No way! But you will start researching more every time you will need something new and always invest in the best items. Investing in the best items means that you will rely on those things for many years to come.

Work less

When you have debts, or you are struggling to raise money for a new car, a new apartment or the vacation of your dreams, you tend to become a workaholic. Of course, working is good; it gives you a purpose and satisfaction when you receive your paycheck. However, when you work only to pay here and there and you get the feeling you are never going to finish paying your debts, this can harm your mind. Being organized with your money, buying less of the things you don’t need and controlling your payments gives you the opportunity to have more freedom and to work less. You can start freelancing, for example, work when you want and for how long you wish.

But the most important thing when starting your minimalist lifestyle is for you to find your reasons for going minimalist. You are the only one who knows what you want and need in your life. Take a deep breath, analyze your options and become more aware of the things that truly matter to you. Just remember, that money can’t buy happiness. A new pair of shoes will not make you happier, but a moment, a memory with a loved one will always do.
