Been in Thailand for awhile now and there is one thing i never get sick of is there variety of fruits available all year round today i am going to introduce to you the Thailand Mangosteen (Thai: มังคุด, mangkhud) it's a very sweet juicy fruit when ripe and purple in color on the hard skin but beautifully white fruit on the inside it's in season from May to September in Thailand.
Apart from been a exotic fruit with lots of essential nutrients the mangosteen has been know to contain a richness source of chemical compounds called Xanthones this chemical compound is showing promising beneficial effects, with some proponents suggesting this fruit could be the next fountain of youth.
The mangosteen has quite a think skin up to 10 millimeters in thickness normally cut with a shape knife around the middle of the fruit then lift the top of you can then scoop out the white flesh segment with a spoon the flesh may or may not contain a small seed, the taste is very sweet but with a little bit of a sour hit.
THE TOUGH OUTER SKIN of THE MANGOSTEEN FRUIT HAS ALSO BEEN USED to TAN LEATHER in CHINA.
The Mangosteen tree trunk and branches have been known to been used to make spears and cabinetry in Thailand and the twigs have been known to be a delicacy as a chewing stick in Ghana.
I first came into contact with this mangosteen fruit when i was working in my cousin's super market back in Australia and i had no idea what it was till i decide to try it and find out for myself. It was priced at two dollars a piece rather expensive for a tiny piece of fruit but i was curious to find out the taste of this fruit been a fruit lover and by no means i became addicted to this so sweet tasty piece of fruit but could not afford to be buying them at that price.
Then i came to Thailand and discovered that they were more popular in the Asia countries and have been having a feast on them ever since i arrived in Thailand ...Here you can buy them at a bargain today i purchased a four kilo bag for 100 baht which is the equivalent to $4 Aus dollars ....omg i would have only got two mangosteen's for that price back home.
I LOVE THIALAND...!!
THE FOUR KILO BAG MUST BE ABOUT ( 40 - 50 ) MANGOSTEEN'S IN THAT BAG...!!
GOT TO GO NOW MY MOUTH IS WATERING UP JUST LOOKING AT THAT BAG OF MANGOSTEEN SITTING OVER THERE ON MY TABLE....HEHE....!!

I was in Thailand several years back. The variety of fruit is definitely one thing I will always remember. I had freshly squeezed Guava every morning with my eggs. Unfortunately, I can't find fresh Guava in this part of the States. The Mangosteen was intimidating at first because I had no idea what to do with it. Ha
