The mango is often called the King of Fruits but I would like to tender the mangosteenas a contender for the title. They share the first five letters of their name and they are both delicious! 😉
As the rains come the fruits in Cambodia seem to have gone into overdrive producing an abundance of brightly colored and delicious tasting fruit. The markets are full of red rambutans, green and yellow mangos, piles of pink dragonfruit and a plethora of greens!
I love mangosteen and had to buy and eat these when I saw them yesterday. For those of you who are not familiar with them they have a harder outside husk which is a deep purple/black. Inside the husk is vibrant bright purple which can stain cloth. The husk is bitter to the taste but what is inside is pure magic!
Inside the mangosteen is a juicy white flesh surrounding one or more seeds. The taste is heaven! Juicy, tart, sweet it is a taste all of its own. It's a very refined taste, full of flavor that only mangosteens can make!
If you see them in the market try them - they are delicious! 😉

They are such a cool fruit - unfortunately quite expensive in those countries that I have been to, compared to all the other sweet and tasty fruits. But it is still a beauty that I treat myself with now and then ☺️
