Pears can be eaten fresh, processed as fruit in cans, juice and sometimes as dried fruit. Pear juice is the basic ingredient of jelly or jam although often mixed with other fruit juice. Fruit pear juice is called perry.

Unripe pear if eaten may be said to ease bowel movements (have laxative effects), whereas ripe pear has a diuretic effect and it is possible to make people drowsy. Pears contain sorbitol so that when eaten too much can cause bloating in the stomach and cause a waste of wind.

Wood pear is very good to be made carvings, furniture and wind instrument quality first. Small pieces of pear tree are either used for cooking with fumigation techniques because they produce a fragrant aroma. Pear grater can also be used as meat plasters before cooking.
