Fruits and Veggies Monday: Our Local Market in my Hometown

in fruitsandveggiesmonday •  7 years ago

This is a typical picture of our local market in my hometown, in Pangasinan, Philippines. You can get freshest vegetable, almost all locally grown in the place itself.

Wide varieties of tropical vegetables. There is the beautiful eggplant, bittergourd, string beans, ladyfinger and sweetpotato. Hmmnn, we usually make a vegetable stew with that.

Bamboo shoots, and flowers (in yellow - orange color) from squash, and some other edible flowers. We have lots of green leaves too. Sometimes, we just steamed or boiled the leaves and eat as it is, and yes its delicious! it serves as our appetizers.

We have different types of native bananas. The one you see in photo is called lakatan, and the other is cardava or saba banana - this type of banana is usually used for cooking.

Vendors usually sell it per bundles or you can choose and they will weigh it.

In this picture you can see a Turnips or singkamas, jicama in spanish. (The white one in the transparent bag). Our native turnips are eaten raw, we usually accompany it with a bit of salt, or vinegar. Its crunchy and very juicy.

I missed my hometown, San Fabian. It named after the saint, called fabian.

This is a little glimpse of our typical market in the province.

Beautiful colours at the market, @sherylneil! We have some of those here too, as Malaysia is also a tropical country like the Philippines! :) Good job capturing these :)

It's really great that you can get locally grown fruits and veggies. Less pesticides and chemicals!

Thats right, also a huge help to the local farmers of our town, not to mention no need for using carbon footprint : )
