Just me cursing on Steem
Because not all people can produce "great" content and are good writers. This alone would not a
fatal problem, the problem comes when you are on a website who pays many people for shit and
you are active and trying but not getting.
Take a look into this post https://steemit.com/skepticism/@murphyslaw/hello
I am sitting in a coffee shop and the dude next to me just showed me he made money off Steemit so I'm going to see what this is about. It's hard not to be skeptical.
And this earns 1700 Dollars and 128 votes - really?
This post comes out of frustration, but i am sure many people feel the same. Maybe i am not the best writer, maybe my English is not good enough, but at least i try to find and be active, but to be on a platform who shows your success instantly and not get results will turn me off.
Most will tell me you need to provide good content to get the love of Steemers and i will tell you this is bullshit and this dilution will lead to the downfall of Steemit.
If I could give the whales advice i would tell them to code a bot to identify active not successful members, so they get the attention of them and look into them if they provide useful things for the community. To be active is useful, but to get out nothing from it is just the kill switch you installed to get people out of Steem.
I would love to read a technical analyse of all the active members. How much they comment and post and how much money they have. On the long run only financial successful members will stay the rest will leave. Why should i stay when my efforts are worth pennies?
Advantages of reddit and Facebook:
- you are useless, but doesn't know it
- you are not jealous of successful people
Thanks for reading and let this post sunk into the abyss of none existence.
I upvoted you mainly because I think the conversation needs to be brought up. I get why you would be frustrated but honestly I have been making money online since 2008 and Steemit has been the best payouts for me EVER online even though I don't have tits and I'm not getting upvoted like the hot girls. There are some issues though. Some of the whales are operating bots which I'm not totally against as long as the bots upvote me! I just posted an introduction post with pictures and a short video! Please check it out and upvote it if you would like! https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@brianphobos/hi-steemit-i-m-brian-from-arizona-i-m-into-sports-traveling-having-fun-and-computers-here-are-some-pictures-and-a-short-video-2

Haha if the whales have bots I think it's OK if that is a sign of trust that they upvote certain posters content to make it more visible. People can continue to strive to have that sort of publicity by making especially good posts. I think Wang is a helpful bot for newbies, but people should be able to vote on some of the others that are intrusive and are saying the same things each time they appear in the comment field. I enjoy the comments that are well crafted responses often as much as the original posts. I can't say this of any other site I can think of. Steemit has carved out its own path and it will be interesting to see how it evolves and changes. your introduce yourself post is a great example of interesting content that cannot be copied because nobody else has your personal experience through life. I upvoted your post and hope you are excited about the success you had and it encourages further engaging posts in the future

Maybe take the time to ask questions of people who have succeeded or create an original post that has some of your interests and what value you bring to steemit. Instead of bashing it, maybe you should also realize that people who have a following and post insightful comments beyond great post generally do better. Instead of being jealous of others with high dollars try to help new people and you may get recognized for contributing myself. I had the same problem, posting things I thought were valuable and it wasn't til I actually wrote a heartfelt introduceyourself that I received a larger reward. And not everyone is going to create great posts. Just stick to your strengths and try different styles. You do have the chance to be successful :)

If you can read I predicted that I will get this advice, but my point is not original posts earn money, but some earn money out of the blue with zero effort. Example above

I voted for the "example above" and I am not voting for this post. Isn't it up to me to decide what I think adds value to the steemit project? Or do you think that you are able to better make my decisions for me? Right.

If you see it as value, then vote. It is a free network and your vote has more value than my vote.

That's why I am attempting to look into the people who are Whales and what they did to get there. I already see patterns, but some of them will taper off a little later, due to network effect.

All the whales are miners who got their stack from mining and not from writing.

Jealousy and being a good writer is something you need to work on yourself and stop pointing fingers about I think. Most posts that make it have a lot more words to them than in this article you've written. People will also paint shop their own pictures for the article which really helps. ;) This is a place that wants good, original and new content after all. Write an article talking about global pollution or something, maybe an idea of how people can clean it up, get some pictures, do some paintshop or something. Grab the motorbike, go for a go-pro ride for Steemit? I dunno - What are you interested in talking/writing about? There's been too many cliche articles about Steem cause people have seen a couple of posts about it make a lot of money. But what you gotta know is that people will vote you up if you bring something new to the table, ye know what I mean?

my point is - some does not need to have this and get paid anyway. My frustration comes only partly from useless, but mostly of posts i linked above. I believe i am average and this will be the average reaction.

In the link you've chucked down, @murphyslaw is stating that some other lad has told him about how he's made money off Steemit and to give it a try. How are you so sure that the one who made a lot of money from steem didn't just jump on Steemit and upvote murphyslaw's post to give him a head start, and then all the minnows & dolphins followed suit for a vote pay-out?
Basically what I'm getting at is that Steemit isn't failing. You are. I don't mean that in a bad way. People get frustrated when they don't get as many votes or as much money as they want, that's pretty natural.

Ultimately does it matter how successful specific Authors are? Steemit is about revolution within the social media world; not about having a paying place for wanta be writers. To suggest steemit should alter the metrics to reward less productive members is silly, most people expect to be rewarded skill, not just turning out aclot of content most members do not upvote.
To say it is steemit role to give everyone who wants drinking money misses the point of being here; not everyone can write quality material, the same as not everyone would have the make up to be a combat sniper or spend 99 under the sea in a submarine...

Let me share you my personal experience. I am a beginner here and I have written few articles. Yes, it is difficult to get noticed for a while as it takes time to create an online identity for yourself. I am slowly getting noticed by one or two whales. It hasn't translated much in steem terms now but I must accept that steem has made me write again. I agree with you that as like any online site, one thing we must watch out is people selling sex in the name of content. I have written an article about such practices in art section. It can be found here. https://steemit.com/art/@chhabiz/bringing-back-inspiration-innocence-and-purity-in-fine-arts

There is a magic formula: 3T (Thinks Take Time). Use it and You won't be disappointed
As we speak, the whales make the games here. But in time more and more people will have STEEM POWER. I know that rich get richer. Those who understand the economics behind STEEM wil not cash-out for a trip to "somewhere" but will choose to pump up the STEEM POWER. This what I am going to do in the next months.
My perception is that we wil have a wider spread when it comes to STEEM POWER as the Time go/
