Found some more info.
This was a testflight, supposed to take 17 hours. To make it more interesting the draw the image of the plane over the USA.
During this flight they crossed 22 states.

I think what they do is they plot the figure somewhere on a map and than make a flightplan, following the figure.
You can have Flightradar24 follow a specific flight, so that's how you get such a nice image.
