#9 What is it? First to guess right wins!

What is it?

Friday Fun!

Yes, it's FriYAY and time for my weekly contest inspired by a game we played with the kids at my niece's birthday one year, albeit slightly more advanced. As with all my contests they are simple enough, guess right and win.

What do you have to guess?

You need to guess this image. It’s a zoomed in shot from an actual object.

I think this is super tricky but I thought that for the last few weeks and it was guessed in a day, either way, get your out of the box thinking ready for this one!

macro no.9.jpg

What am I?

HINT

What do you win?

The first to guess will wins one @steembasicincome share.

Winner will be chosen at my discretion based on the image details I have.

Can I guess more than once?

Yes, feel free to guess as many times as you like I will check in daily to let you know if you have guessed right or wrong so you can guess again if a winner has not been announced.

Last Week’s Contest

Contest #8 was won by @markusmichael, who guessed not only that it was a mushroom but the exact type. I also gave out a bonus @sbi share to @onionking as he was pretty close and would have won if not for @markusmichael's exact guess.

The @sbi shares have now been sent.

That's it! There are no requirements to follow, upvote or resteem although two out of three could help you win more after you guess right and the other will ensure you get a chance at seeing the next contest. Plus maybe an awesome post or two.

I hope you try again this week and as always I look forward to hearing all your guesses.

Hey everyone, it was a Woolly Cactus and was guessed by @roselifecoach after the hint was given, thanks to everyone for playing along, I look forward to seeing you all next week for an exciting game of #whatisit

This must be my lucky day!! Thanks a bunch @insideoutlet, it was fun!

Congrats on the win! @roselifecoach I love reading all the guesses, some are so cool as its not until they mention it that I'm like oh year I can see that.

Hahaha... me too... they have help to give out some clue on the guessing! Thanks to them too!

Could it be a discocactus?

I dont think i have seen a disco cactus. Ill have to google it. This image isnt it though.

Just checked these out, they are beautiful plants. Even if they hurt to touch 😄

Bird nest?

@blackswith12 nope not a bird nest.

Darn! I was going to guess bird nest.

@blockurator haha it was a woolly cactus so you would have been wrong anyways. :) Thanks for playing and I hope to see you next week!

Hay straw?

@michelleloh168 Sorry but its not straw or hay

lint brush

@headchange with a super hairy something... lol. its not a lint brush :)

This is tricky ...😂😂. My brains shuffling between part of a fibrous tree

And raffia palm

@kamiikazer Its not a fibrous, what else were you shuffling through?

This time i would take animals hide and skin.

@kamiikazer nice try, it was a woolly cactus from Bolivia, cool hey!

Looks like a Chola cactus!

@eoj it does, does it, it's not a "Cholla Cactus" but you are super close. Feel free to guess again, a hint had now been added.

Well, I think it's a cat-tail. Not a cat's tail but the lakeside plant. The bloom there of.

Thanks for a great contest. Lots of fun.

@bigtom13 nice guess, its not a 'cat-tail plant' but it is a plant, so very close.

A doormat?

@sparkesy43 nope not a doormat, feel free to try again, check out the other comments to remove some that have been guessed already.

Nice image, and a tough guess....

How about, close up of a Coconut Shell?

@bluefinstudios nope its not a coconut shell, nice try though, a few people have guessed that. :)

An outdoor carpet!

@themonkeyzuelans like the out of the box thinking, its not carpet, indoor or outdoor :)

Hmmmm... maybe a corn husk?! Nothing like fresh corn!

@smylie2005 I love corn, its my fave veggie but it can also land me in hospital, so I have to be super careful and have been banned from it by the hubby until we get back to OZ where the hospitals would know what to do with me. He told me if I die by corn, he is not coming to my funeral so a big threat and enough to keep me away for now lol...

haystack

@irsyadillah nope not a haystack :)

Mmmm... dog fur - perhaps?

@whitelite not dog fur but I do love dogs :) I have a sausage dog named Pia :)

A really pity, Pia would've loved that fur. ; )

haha I'm not so sure she would like to sleep on a cactus lol... Although there are some rats that build their homes in them I found out.

I can pretty much guarantee it ! Hha!

Oh! the rat thing, I'd never have thought...

Yeah it's crazy what some animals with sleep in, although I am surprised by some of the homeless here and how they can sleep in the heat on the ground but I guess you take what you can get.

Are we still on animals on the last portion or has it shifted to humans?

Is it a thistle?

@markusmichael nice try I like it, it's not a thistle but I can see how you got that. :)

A nail brush?

@cheese4ead nope not a nail brush, thanks for playing, I always love to see new names pop up in the contest :)

Not sure. All the stuff I've thought of has already been guessed so let's see how this progresses. 😁

@gillianpearce I would get more specific on some of the things that have been guessed, ;)

OK. Thanks @insideoutlet. I'll be travelling all day today so, if it's not been guessed by tomorrow I'll take a very close look at the earlier guesses! 😁

Enjoy your travels, where are you venturing too?

I'm home now @insideoutlet. I was in Devon and Cornwall for 10 days. Just got back a few hours ago. 😊

hint added now :)

is it a winter cactus @insideoutlet? 😊

Nope it was a woolly cactus, it has been guessed now, thanks for playing @gillianpearce, glad you are home safe and I look forward to talking more soon. :)

Or a golden rat tail cactus?😊

Is it wild beaver body or tail zoomed in?

@bala41288 Not a beaver body or tail but thanks for playing, :)

I think @bluefinstudios guessed it, or at least that (Coconut Husk) would have been my guess also.

@bashadow nope he didn't guess it, we had a few think it was a coconut but its not :)

I am going to go with a bird nest, if that's not it maybe it's probably an old fur coat you had stucked away lol

@elsiekjay haha, I have never owned a fur coat, not a real one anyways, I like animals too much and already feel bad I like eating meat too much to give up. ITs not a birds nest or the coat. :)

Wowsers, this is a tough one! Anything I might have guessed has already been mentioned, so I'm going to go with something out there. Is it.... an Ewok? 😊

@traciyork hahaha, this cracked me up, I love Ewok's they are so cute and made Star Wars for me when I was a kid. Thanks for playing lol...

LOL! You're very welcome!

hint added now :)

Okay, another guess,

Sheep/Goat fur? A carpet?

@elsiekjay no carpet, goat or sheep here :)

Haha. I give up!

There is always next week. 😁

A bird's nest

@terminallyill nope not a birds nest, I can see that through. :)

I have no idea :(

Good got someone stumped lol... I'm sure you can think of something.

@engchitchat haha that's not a guess, you always have an idea lol..

Whoa - that was awesome! I did think of that one, but I've never looked at a fly agaric (amanita muscaria) that fresh and that close up! Cool - kicking myself though.
On to this week!

I'm thinking coconut husk...

Or burrs on a dog's paw. (Ouch!)

@viking-ventures Scanning through the comments the coconut husk seems to be a common theme, its not it though :)

Okay since not a coconut, then how about a hantavirus carrying rodent nest that lives in the deserts of new Mexico and Arizona built inside a dead cholla cactus wood.

The good old cholla cactus again. Its not that but I love the added story that goes with it. I had no idea that things would think to nest in something ao prickly.

You have a real winner of "guess this thingy" So a rotten prickly pear cactus ear that snagged a passing hiker, who when was just so ticked off he unthinkingly grabbed it from his pant leg only to scream like a prepubescent little girl, as he hucked at a boulder to smash it to pulp. What remains are the insides of that ear with no spikes because they are still stuck in the hikers hand and pants legs, the red bits are pieces of skin and blood from his hand.

hahaha, your hilarious, I do enjoy your answers a lot, I really wish I had a sponsor or higher upvotes so that I could give more random prizes but as it is I lost out week on week most weeks. have a 100% upvote instead :)

I'm just having fun with it. You might make one of those most comments on a post list at the guess rate failure. You certainly picked an interesting picture part.

I like it. I have not heard of that list, there are quite a few comments on here but with the hint now added I don't think it will be long before its guessed.

Took a bit, but I found it https://steemit.com/hit-parade/@arcange/daily-hit-parade-20180616 a list put out by @arcange, 117 for the one in 10th on number of comments. Your at 143, so maybe tomorrows list. I don't know how often he does them. but you have a lot, and people still guess, People like a challenge, we sometimes just can't give up.

Haha im sure someone will get it. I have unanswered responses currently that ill check tonight. Thanks for finding that. It looks like a daily thing so fingers crossed. wouldnt mind being on @arcange lists lol.

A different kind of mop head?

No mop head here. Not sure this would be a good cleaning option lol.

Red Lizard skin. LOl! :-D

Hahaha awesome out of the box lol. Definitely not it but thanks for playing lol.

@insideoutlet Lol. I missed it. Gotta learn to be a good guesser. rofl. hehe😂

Its still not guessed yet, we know that its a cactus but what type is still up from grabs.

I'm going with a dried flower on cactus of some sort.

But what cactus, is now the question....

haha @insideoutlet, absolutely no clue. Have you heard of THAT cactus? 😎

The some sort with a flower... yeah I think I have not only heard of that one but seen it too haha..

hahaha thought you might have :)

It's dried coconut husk?

Nope no coconut here.

Prickly pear cactus?

Nope its not a prickly peat cactus. Nice guess though..

Tumbleweed!

Hsga not a tumbleweed but i like the thinking.

My guess would Coconut Husk too but I already know it’s not ... so I shall wait to find out what it is 😊

@kaerpediem Hey, it was a woolly cactus from Bolivia, we were so fascinated by all the different cactuses in the flower dome Singapore more than the flowers lol...

Haha ... cool
Thank you for introducing me to the woolly cactus 😊

@kaerpediem Have a look at the full image when I post next week, its a super cool cactus almost as cool as the shroom from the week before except not as colourful.

Can’t wait to see what it looks like 😊

My guess would Coconut Husk too but I already know it’s not ... so I shall wait to find out what it is 😊

Yep definitely not that. 😁

I'm sure I've found it now, but I can't figure out what the thing is called! It's not doing a good job at coming up in my searches. Some sort of Australian furry/hairy cactus is all I can get right now!

Its not Australian.but you may have helped other out by putting an image up.

Hairy old man cactus?

@evlachsblog nope it was a woolly cactus, thanks for playing and I hope to see you next week!

Very tricky! Looked like a scrub/brush to me, but because a lot of people have already guessed that, so I said, mop head? haha!!! Your guessing game is fun!!!

Thanks for playing @evlachsblog, it was a woolly cactus from Bolivia, pretty cool hey...

From @viking-ventures ' guess, I googled it and found Peruvian old man cactus.

I saw that one, but when I tried looking it up a second time, it didn't give me this cactus.

Its not that cactus.

The image @viking-ventures put up is not correct. As such the answer above is not correct 🙂

Is it the Mexican old man cactus? 😆

No not an old man cactus..

Okay - thanks.

Then it's a similar-looking one that lives in the Atacama desert, but I have yet to find a name for this sucker.

Its a simple name....

San Pedro cactus

Nope not the San Pedro Cactus.

I never would have guess the images was a cactus 🌵. Good job

Thanks that was the aim. Im now looking for the exact type to pay a winner.

I think I figured it out, but it's because I Googled the image @viking-ventures posted. If I guess it correctly, I think she should still get the prize...

So my guess is the nightblooming cactus/night-blooming cereus, native to Texas and Arizona...

She already said that my image was incorrect...
I think I saw another good image earlier that it might have been, but I can't find it right now...

(That's not meant to sound as harsh as it came out - I'm all kinds of edgy this morning.)

No worries - I think there's something edgy in the air today. And I used your image as a jumping off point, which is why I figured you should still get the credit. 😊

Its very similar to that image. Im sorry your feeling edgy, im just tired. Very very tired. So much so that I feel like crying... gotta love getting kicked all night by a mini minion. Lol... hope you feel better soon. X

Nope its not a nightblooming cactus or native to the US.

I want to let someone else win but is it located in Argentina?

Nope not from Argentina. 😁

How about Chile?

No not from Chile either. Tomorrow ill give the country if not guessed yet. 😁

I have added the country now @viking-ventures, check the post above and good luck!!!

Still the Atacama desert then. I'll get back to you - will try once more.

Its a cactus which grows in dry regions

Haha, dont all cactuses grow in dry regions lol...

Can't wait to see what this one is. The mushroom was really cool looking! I am happy to be back on Steemit after having to take a break for a little while due to my charging cord breaking. :) My guess is a tumbleweed.

Welcome back! Hate when that happens. Im lost without my phone. The shroom was pretty cool. This is too. It spun us out that something like this existed. Its not a tumbleweed 😁

Is it some sort of insect? defanged spider?

I love your Steemit name. Have a thing for turtles 💜🐢🐢🐢💜, i love the out of the box thinking. Super creepy spider if it was lol. Its not a spider.

Is it Cactus Espostoa?

Nope not a cactus espostoa.

Oh dear... I'm gonna wait for your hint!!

The hint is in the house!!!! Check the post above :)

Thanks!
Silver torch or Wooly torch cactus?

It is a woolly cactus, not 100% sure its the same as the Wooly torch cactus but close enough for me. :) Going back 9 weeks ago I would have accepted cactus as a winner, now I need to be a little more selective, lol... I will transfer the @sbi share this week. :)

I know right, your contest is getting harder each week, but it was actually quite fun, plus I know more cactus name now than before, thanks to you!! LOL

@roselifecoach haha me too, I had no idea there were so many before I went to the flower dome in Singapore or how awesome they can be. My fav actually looked like a penis... hair and all.... lol... Couldn't help myself, had to take a snap and still giggle when I see it, I may be a big kid at heart. lol..

San Pedro cactus?

@lucyho nope it was a woolly cactus, guessed now. thanks for playing, I hope to see you next week.

I’ve never heard of that type of cactus, here’s a photo of a woolly bush. They’re native to the South West of Western Australia ( Albany)DFF932ED-D8FD-4060-BC51-7566442E4AAD.jpeg

My home state and where we are heading too tomorrow. I have been to Albany but didnt check out the wild life too throughly. Check out this weeks post to see the full image od the Cactus. I had never seen one before heading into the flower some in Singapore, they had plants from all over the world. Super cool. It was hard to pick which cactus to use.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Not San Pedro/ Then saguaro cactus or Golden Barrel?
Index of /KaktitosPlants/Succulent Plants Catalogue/ALOE sensu lato incl. Lomatophyllum (Xanthorrhoeaceae)/slides; somewhere in there?

Nope none of those. Ill add the country its from tomorrow...

I have now added the country it's from above.

That is a dried grass

Nope not dried grass

dried clotbur/cocklebur?

Not sure what these are but it not the answer I have to 🙂 thanks for playing. Try again.

Chollas cactus or Mammillaria cactus ?

Not either of these cactuses.

Hmmm .. what about...

The old man hairy cactus ... Cephalocereus senilis

no its not that one, I have added a hint above if you are keen for another try :)

Bolivian Torch

nope but it has been guessed now, it was a woolly cactus :)

Ball or barrel cactus? :s

nope, but I have added a hint now :)

Last guess - spending far too much time on this this time!!!
Cumulopuntia boliviana - basically, some type of cushion cactus, also known as a mother-in-law cactus!!! (I know, right?!)
There seem to be a number of related species - not all of whom recognize the international border between Bolivia and Chile... But they generally look a bit like this.

(Image address from Atacama Photo - used only for demo purposes)

My other guess would be an alpaca who wandered too close to one of these...

hahahah that is funny, lol... It's common name was a woolly cactus. Someone guessed it now :) Sorry I got the desert wrong, should have googled it before saying no.

I actually need to check whether the Altiplano is part of the Atacama... probably, but I'm not sure.

My English deserted me for that one! "Woolly!" not hairy or furry... :-p

Good one though!

Thanks, yeah I did say it was a simple name, where are you from and what is your native language?

American English - as opposed to British/Aussie English. I am bilingual there, but we just don't say "woolly" in the US very often!

haha, I'm not sure we do in Australia either.

@viking-ventures This one looks pretty cool too. there were so many awesome ones at the flower dome that I had problems picking on to use lol..

The bristles of a broom?

@bengy Nope not bristles or a broom :)

Cigar maybe?

@adam.tran Thanks for playing. it was a woolly cactus of all things, I hope to see you next week :)
