One of My Favorite Places on Earth

in fun •  7 years ago

I won't pretend I'm well-traveled. I've never left the United States (except to visit Canada as a kid), but I've seen a good bit within the country. But one of my favorite places is where I've always been - Lake Horace in Weare, New Hampshire.

Morning Lake_1.JPG

This man-made lake was formed in 1913 by constructing the Weare Reservoir on the Piscataquog River. My grandfather bought a small piece of land here in the 1950's (1/10 of an acre), and when he passed away the land went to my father. We rebuilt the small cabin into a two bedroom, three-story building to make it more usable for family events and frequent summer stays.

I've been coming here since I was a few years old. I'm lucky enough to be staying there while visiting family for a few weeks this summer.

Here's a few pictures that might illustrate why it's one of my favorite places in the world - or at least in the United States.

That sure looks fun @justinchase
Have you been hurt doing that?

Not often. I managed to knock myself out once when wakeboarding (the board came off one foot, then swung around and hit me in the head), and I wore a helmet for a few years... but it messes with my balance and I'm less of a daredevil these days!

Yes always take precaution while having fun.

Wow! That first photo of the lake with the Mist coming off of the waters? What a great capture. It looks like you have the water skiing skills, too. Beautiful and peaceful.

Thanks! I need to try to go out some morning while I'm here and get some more photos like that first one. It just means waking up around 515 am and that's not exactly fun. ;)

I hear that 😜 I used to for work until my schedule was changed. I can get rough!

Yes. Upvoted. My favorite place is at the family cabin on Lake Superior in Canada. We spend much of August there, kayaking, swimming, painting and having bonfires. These times are like heaven on Earth.

Absolutely! Glad it sparked some memories for you.

Thanks for the upvote!

Hey, how fun!

Sure is!

Oh wow how awesome! It does look like a really beautiful place, and the waterskiing looks fun!!

It is definitely both of those things. A little slice of paradise. :)
