My partner and I have weekly tradition to bid the work week farewell, by making ourselves (and i mean me) the dirtiest yet classiest Martini's to kick off the weekend.
The biggest issue we run into, is running out of olive juice. And no i do not refer to urban dictionary's definition of olive juice: "When you mouth olive juice to someone across a room, it looks like you're saying I love you".
There is no running out of I loves you in this house. But we do run out of our brine supply and end up with too many olives and not enough juice.
I decided that this was utterly ridiculous, I mean how difficult could it be to make olive juice 'aka' olive brine?
Well thanks to uncle google, apparently not difficult in the slightest.
So after analyzing a couple of different recipes, i came up with this offering.
O-LOVE YUICE RECIPE
Ingredients
275ml jar
1 Tablespoon Himalayan salt
1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar (you could use Apple cider if do not have but does alter the taste)
250ml Purified water (i say this because we are having a drought in Cape Town, South Africa and I am not taking any chances with the water)
Quality green/black/purple olives (type is up to you; missionary, gordal, kalamata. Hey whatever pickles your fancy)
Method
Put every thing into the jar. Shake/stir and let it sit for a couple of hours for the brine to really marinate in the Olives.
I have just prepared a fresh batch for this evening!
Just in case you have never made a dirty martini and want to try it out.
A little tip, I like to add a splash of lemon/lime juice to the below and garnish with the rind.
ENJOY :)

I'm going to trust you on this recipe, yet gonna stick with the traditional olive juice lol

Yeah its it's pretty hetic but the problem also stems from the amount of people moving here consuming resources. We had a rough drought 20 years ago but not as many people. But one thing i will say is you do not realise how much water you actually waste until you have to count each drop. It has been an eye opening experience for eveyone.

Save water! Drink booze! Thanks for this (I've been resorting to the R20 for 3 special at foodlovers for olives to keep up supply) Have you had Cape To Cuba's dirty? They do things to it man, I just can't put my finger on it. Sooo good.

I have not!!! My boyfriend and i are killing the martinis will definitely try theirs out. Thanks. I just bought 1 kg of fresh olives from a friends pole exercise student haha and i am going through the whole process of um i dont know the correct terminology "brining " but takes a couple of months. So will see how they turn out. But going to get creative.
