Side Car Streamliner at Bonneville sets a record

in fun •  6 years ago

Anders Jonsson of Sweeden running in SCS-PF 650cc class, Anders set a new record of 130.404 MPH on their own existing record of 107.236 MPH. It wasn't easy for the team to reach the goal. They had many attempts at the record during speed week and they were plagued with mechanical and electrical failures. The team was eventually able to set the new record on the very last day of Speed week.

Here is a breakdown of the SCS-PF class. SCS means Side Car (motorcycle) Streamliner. PF means Push Rod Fuel. There are two classes for types of fuel. One is called "GAS" and the other is called "FUEL". The difference is that the Gas class requires the drivers to purge their fuel tanks and replace it with sanctioned 110 octane race gas supplied by the event organizers. The tanks are sealed by race officials with a anti-tamper system. This guarantees that everyone in the Gas class is using the same fuel. The Fuel class has no regulations on what goes into the fuel tank. In the case of Anders' team, they were using 50% nitro methane in the fuel class.
