Egg Battle: A Fun Easter Game

in fun •  7 years ago

Of course you could play a fun April Fools prank this year and have an Easter egg hunt for eggs you never hid. If you do this please let me know how long it takes the kids to realize there are no eggs.

As an alternative to this prank, I'd like to share a game my father learned as a child in Lebanon. He shared it with our family and we enjoyed this game on many Easters. I'm happy to share this game with the Steemit community.

I've just realized that this game doesn't have a name so I'm taking the liberty of naming it now. I shall call it, Egg Battle. Now that you know what to call it, please allow me to tell you how to play it.

The game is quite simple to play as all you need is hard boiled eggs. Dying and decorating the eggs may make the game more enjoyable and you may enjoy the process of decorating the eggs. You are ready to play once your hard boiled eggs are ready.

Egg Battle can be played with just two people, or you can play with as many players as you'd like. There must be at least 1 egg per player. If there are many players, I'd suggest creating a bracket and playing a winner advances tournament. If you have way more eggs than players, you can create a round robin tournament. Just choose the best tournament format for your needs.

Each round will consist of two players with one egg each. One player is the attacker and one player is the defender. The defender holds his egg, and the attacker hits the defenders egg with his own egg. Each player gets to decide which side of their egg will strike or be struck. My years of experience playing Egg Battle has led me to prefer the head of the egg as I have always found it to be stronger than the butt. One egg will crack and whoever is holding that egg loses. Back in the old country the winner would win the loser's egg, but in a country with an abundance of eggs, you may want to substitute a better prize. If you created a bracket, the winners will advance and face each other until there is only 1 egg left standing. This is the champion egg.

To get more use out of your eggs, you can create a consolation bracket where the eggs that are cracked on one side face off against each other, using the side that has not been used. Of course the eggs can be eaten once they have been defeated in battle. I eat more hard boiled eggs on Easter than I do the rest of the year combined.

A great story about Egg Battle is the one year when my father gave my Grandma a wooden egg, unbeknownst to her. Her wooden egg was decorated much like the other eggs so only my father knew she had a wooden egg. Needless to say she won every round and her wooden egg ended up champion egg. She was so happy that her egg could not be beaten. When the game was over, she gave the champion egg to my father and told him to hide it and make sure no one took it because it was a special egg. So if you want to fix your game of Egg Battle, slip in a wooden egg. Perhaps it will make for a good April fools prank since the two holidays fall on the same day this year.

Thank you for reading about this fun Easter game. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed reminiscing about it.
