Zilliqa is an ecosystem founded in 2017 that has 186 projects under its umbrella.
Zilliqa is one of the first blockchains built on a sharded mechanism. Sharding is one of the concepts of possible scalability solutions. It is the horizontal partitioning of a database into individual subsets, which we refer to as shards.
Scalability itself is one of the big problems of cryptocurrencies in general. New and revolutionary ideas such as the sharded mechanism have resulted in a large increase in price, which happened in 2018 when the price of ZIL went from $0.04 to $0.2 (the highest value reached until 2021 - the ATH of ZIL).
When the new ATH was reached in May 2021, ZIL had a market capitalization of over $2,500,000,000 and ranked in the top 60. Today, with a market capitalization of $711,322,787, ZIL ranks 106th.
I am a firm believer in ZIL as I like their sharded mechanism project and they are preparing some plan updates in Q1 2022.
