Help me understand the value of Steem...

in funding •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Everyone!
I finally am starting to fund my Steem account. Believe it or not I found an old Doge coin account and used that.
Yes way back in the day I had no idea that the coin was put out as a joke.

Before I bought my steem i went to the FAQ and thought that I understood what I was buying.
I thought that I was buying Steem coins which on the market/exchange were a little over 5 dollars.
then i put the other half in the steam power I thought.

Any ways when I traded in the Doge it was valued at a little over 700 dollars.
I immediately checked the value of my Steem account seconds after the transfer and it said my account is only worth 450 +/-...
Where did the other 250/300 go???? Did i get charged over 200 dollars to buy Steem???? That cant be right I'm sure there is an explanation.
My next question is when I looked at the value of the steam coins in my account it said each coin is worth just a little over 1 dollar?????
The market says the coins are worth a little over 5 dollars????
What am i doing wrong?
Can I recover my missing 200+/- plus dollars (if in fact it is missing)
Do i actually have real steam crypto valued a 5 dollars each ???? If not where did I go wrong? do I have to go to an exchange only to buy them??
I appreciate all your help in explaining this to me.
Thanks
