The Social Exchange Market which consists of a collection of institutions in affiliation with the Federal Government of Nigeria has made available $1.3b to boost Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria. An apex bank - Development Bank of Nigeria - has been instituted and licensed for this purpose.
See the following newspaper releases:
This fund is intended to reach the grassroot entrepreneurs, thus, the Development Bank of Nigeria initiated to disburse the grant using Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs). This approach was to avoid the exploitation and bureaucracy associated with using commercial banks as the means of disbursement. The selected (about eight) NGOs have been commissioned to gather individual projects for funding in groups of 1000. For each group of 1000 projects, a Modern Microfinance Bank will be initiated to hold the fund, disburse it as the projects unfold and effectively monitor the implementation of each project.
I, @mrfelix, work with Bethany Human Development Center (NGO) one of the NGOs commissioned under the umbrella of the Development Bank of Nigeria through which the funds will be disbursed.
