Free Eye Healthcare for the Aged

Aging is an inevitable occurrence that every human being is bound to face so long as they are blessed with long life, it is however quite unfortunate that the process comes with so many unwanted health related issues, all of which is mostly as a result of the oxidative process that occurs in our system, nonetheless one can have a healthy and lovely aged moments in life if their take good care of themselves and adopt the policy of prevention is better than cure.

It is for this reason why @bettervision is very much concerned with the visions of the aged. One of the most common issues that comes with aging is deterioration in vision mostly as a result of cataract formation or other ailments such diabetes, hypertension and so many age related condition which has lots of detrimental effects. People refuse to go through cataract surgeries because they are not well educated about it and has stereotypic ideas about surgeries in general, it for this reason why cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the developing countries.

So this year in preparation towards World Sight Day which occurs on the 10th of October, we have decided to screen and educate as many old people as we can, lots of outreaches are been prepared to push this agenda and facilitate the process of orientation, idea of free eye screening exercise gets us the crowd we need for our purpose.

What is @bettervision about?

@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.

To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.

To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks

To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.

To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.

Our greatest gratitude goes to @fundition @surfyogi @girlsfoundation @bleepcoin @ackza and @wafrica for helping to make the aims and objectives of @bettervision a reality.
