Outreach at Abrepo Collaboration with Friends Eye (Geriatrics)

The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure

As an adult lots of changes are occurring in our system day in day out. This is natural or physiological, meaning it ought to happen, it is part of how our system was structured, and irrespective of that we don’t have to let it impede our daily routine or act as a hindrance to us enjoying life as we ought to. It is for this reason why we have science and health professionals to study these changes and give us the best option or pathway to go when these changes start setting in.

For our outreach at Abrepo we had lots of aged individuals coming in for checkups and I must say it was a very good thing, the truth of the matter is that we have daily responsibilities we have to fulfill day in day out, and as we grow old these responsibilities do not go away or reduce because our physiology is changing, no, so the stress worn us out quicker and the changes are accelerated, which why it is even more important for us to have regular checkups as we age to continue living healthy and avoid any break downs that may want to come our way.

What is @bettervision about?

@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.

To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.

To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks

To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.

To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.
