The hardest thing about being a writer for me, is NOT writing. I'm not saying that the writing part itself isn't hard, and I have to admit, forcing myself to sit down and get to work is ALSO very hard, but the part where I do nothing is absolutely the worst.
In a weird way, the act of writing has come to occupy a similar place in mind, usually reserved for working out. "What? That's crazy!"- Some might say, but hear me out...
Working out is something integral to my well being, to my health. Working out is something I have to struggle and FORCE myself to do, and for the first 15+ minutes, it's agony. Sometimes the entire session is agony, but after I'm done, I'm always so glad that I did it. A day in which I work out, is a day I feel that I didn't waste.
You could replace "working out" with "writing" at any point in that last paragraph, and the same would ring true. Where writing is different from exercise, is in how I feel when I don't do it... I can go days without working out, and I won't hate myself for it. I can cut myself some slack because it's the weekend, or because I ate well enough to not feel self conscious, but when I skip out on writing, I feel like shit, instantly.
The obvious solution you might say, is just to never stop writing, but it doesn't always work out like that. As you all know, I passed off another version of Issue 4 off to my editor. While that is on the one hand, a moment of triumph and satisfaction, it is on the other, a period of time that I must spend waiting on someday else.
The wait is necessary, I obviously don't want Lisa to cut corners and rush, just to make me feel better. It's also not that I'm afraid that she's going to hate it, that would be fine, I've made plenty of mistakes and Lisa is very honest with me about it when I do, (something I am eternally grateful for). The pain comes from a feeling of being useless for a moment in time.
Even when I fuck up, even when I can't comprehend a way forward for the series, when the ball is in my court, I can write. I can write 100+ pages, and then delete them all and start again (as I have done for Issue 4), and even though that is painful, it is less painful than feeling useless. A day when I don't write, is a day in which I, personally, don't advance my passion. Yes, I am aware that other people advance my work and career, even when I'm not. Theresa puts together art that is unmatched, and Lisa forces me to better my narrative, and these are things that move "Ithaqa" forward.
Arguably, their contributions will advance this project more than my own scripts will, but as I sit here, and wait for my meeting with Lisa on Tuesday, all I feel in my gut, is a hollowness that only Conjuring can fill.
Here is my daily reminder that you ran receive special rewards by backing different reward tiers (just like with Kickstarter) on our official fundition page: https://fundition.io/#!/@drwatson/t2b3d2ijh
And here are our Fundraising Rankings! When we get to $1,000 USD worth of steem, Theresa and I will be able to finish illustrating Issue 1, and release it to all our backers on steem!
Most Votes Leader Board:
- @Bryan-imhoff - 39 upvotes
- @Katharsisdrill - 38 upvotes
- @steevc - 37 upvotes
- @katamori - 35 upvotes
- @enternamehere - 31 upvotes
Most SBD Value Contributed - The Council Of Five:
- @fundition - $1,170.72
- @kommienezuspadt - $74.70
- @Bryan-imhoff - $15.63 (voting rewards) + $30.53 (Pledge Rewards) = ~ $47.00
- @eeks - $39.61
- @Katharsisdrill - $9.07
Steemers who hold a position on the council will get to confer with Theresa and I on what the other bonus gifts to the steem community will be. If we decide to do bonus art, the council of 5 will get to have a say in what is depicted! When you back reward tiers in the campaign, that is added to your SBD ranking, so if you would like to be a part of the council of 5 putting 3-5 SBD in would currently guarantee you a spot, while also netting you some exclusive rewards.

In order to more accurately reflect how close we are to funding this issue, I'm going to start listing what the current value of my liquid steem wallet is. Just putting this here for full transparency.
We have raised 732.4 USD worth of steem, which means we are 73.2 +% of the way to our goal! Once we hit 1000 USD, it will guarantee that we release all of issue 1, for free to steemit! At 1,200 USD, I will be able pay my letterist Lucas as well.

Also, writing is one of the absolute hardest parts for me. I want to like it, but I hate doing it! I commend you as a writer. You have one of the hardest roles in comics.
