Do you know what today is? It is the international women's day, celebrated all over the world. March 8 has been the date ever since women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917 but it was widely adopted in 1975 by the United Nations. Depending on where you live, this day may be a day of celebration or a day of protesting, we hope it is the first one and that you are blessed with all that you need and desire in your life.
“Being A Woman Should Be Your Supreme Achievement And Not Your Deepest Fear. Celebrate Womanhood, Fuel Yourself With Self-Confidence And Let That Fuel Empower You To Soar Towards Your Dreams.”
~ by Mani Mukhija
The earliest Women's Day, called "National Woman's Day," happened on February 28, 1909, in New York and it was organized by the Socialist Party of America at the suggestion of Theresa Malkiel who was a Russian-born American labor activist, suffragist, and an educator. A lot has happened in human history, a lot of pain and a lot of glorious victories. We have great women in our history to thank for everything that we today take for granted.
"Here's to strong women. May we know them, we may be them, may we raise them."
-Stacey Bendet
This day is important because of the freedom that it represents. It was a long and hard journey for humans to reach that level of freedom. We say "humans" because that is what being a woman means, to be a human and to have all the rights that go with that category. A right to learn how to read and write, educate yourself, choose your own partner, not be seen or sold like livestock. We now have the right to vote, speak our mind, choose our profession, dress how we like and act how we please. Can you imagine if all those rights were just wishful thinking? They were for a long long time. The period in which women are free and independent is still much shorter than that one when they were slaves to their husbands and family. Unfortunately, there are still places in this world where that is still happening. We hope that it will not be for long.
"She is water. Powerful enough to drown you, soft enough to cleanse you, deep enough to save you."
-Adrian Michael
No matter if you are a man or a woman, allow yourself a moment of gratitude for all those souls that have lived before us and who have helped make our lives today so magnificent and easy. We often forget just how easy our lives are and over complicate it with "modern-day" problems which would be shocking to women back in the day.
"A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink."
-Gina Carey
The biggest freedom we women today have is the freedom to be happy. We are free to do what we want and need to achieve that happiness. You can color your hair, leave a man who is not good for you or takes you for granted, you can get a tattoo if you want, eat what you like and do what gives you pleasure. You can live alone, with a man, woman or even an entire village, it is your choice. You are free to choose your friends and your activities. You are, above else, FREE TO BE HAPPY.
Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.
-Maya Angelou
Think about what your life is saying. Are you honoring the women from the past with how you live? They have sacrificed a lot so you can be where you are now and all they would want you to do is use all that you can. Be all that you can be and live your life as you want it. Be courageous and smile. There is nothing that can bring you down unless you allow it. You can achieve great things if you believe in yourself. Fundition believes in you and we are always proud of everything you do. Smile! You are free.
“Well-behaved women seldom make history.”
-Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
To all the women in our Associates team, our Angles, Ambassadors, Backers, Supporters, and Founders, we wish you an amazing women's day! To make it an even better one, we have prepared for you a selection of projects on Fundition that are either about women or done by women. There is no better day to visit them and give them some love. Open your hearts and donate the amount you are comfortable with. Show them your support and do not forget to be kind and leave a comment or two on their posts. They will appreciate it.
