READ: Wisdom 3:1-9
Key Scripture: but the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish, they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction. (Wisdom3:1-2).
THOUGHTS
I find great inspiration in the reading of today taken from Wisdom 3:1-9. I admire the part where it says, "The souls of the righteous are in the hand of the Lord." Whenever I hear this expression, I remember funeral Masses and imagine a deceased Christian in the Casket whose burial Mass is being celebrated. Family members are always dressed in black or white uniform with their faces disconcerted. The atmosphere is usually solemn and tensed, with the congregation looking very reflective. There are different expressions and displays during funeral. But the fundamental truth is that the souls of the just are in the hand of the Lord. That is a great consolation. It does not matter how the people died and at what age they died; their souls are in the hand of the Lord if they were righteous. We should not forget that their souls are in the hand of the Lord. Today is a day to pray for all the faithful departed. Today is also a day to reflect on our lives and our relationship with God.
