This was an old, funny story in the local Cebuano language being told around drinking sessions by drunks around our neighborhood at night when I was young.
There was once this old priest who went home for the holidays riding the train to the provinces. He was seated besides a big, rough man.
Now this big, rough man was reading a large adult pornographic magazine. The priest was saddened by this and tried to avert his eyes. No matter how he tried to stare away, the large pages always caught the corner of his eyes and tempted him with the image of a pretty girl's full naked glory!
The old priest was troubled and deeply thought of a way to start a conversation with the rough man. He wanted to preach to him about the Seventh Commandment and the deadly sin of lust. How would he go about it talking to this man?
But the rough man started to talk to him first.
ROUGH MAN: Father, can I ask a question?
OLD PRIEST: (Surprised and excited, but kept calm.) What is it, my son?
ROUGH MAN: What causes arthritis?
OLD PRIEST: (Aha! Now's my good chance to preach!) Arthritis is caused by swearing bad words, drinking hard, threatening people with violence, and watching porn always!
ROUGH MAN: (Shocked and surprised) What??? Is that true? Oh, my goodnes! Damn...
OLD PRIEST: (Feeling joy that he has preached) Yes! Why did you ask, my son?
ROUGH MAN: (Still shocked and confused) It's because the news article I was reading in the magazine reported that...that...
OLD PRIEST: (Gently smiling to the man) Reported what, my son?
ROUGH MAN: The news article I was reading reported that the Pope has arthritis!
