My Problem With: Smokers #1

in funny •  6 years ago

Hello Hello i will cut right to the chase so  for more info about this series check at the end of the post!

A couple of hours ago i came back from a drink with a bunch of friends. The place was fantastic, the drinks were amazing and the prices quite normal i can say, but something was wrong. I came in my home and something smelled, like really bad.

Oh wait it's Me

What was that smell? Maybe the alcohol?

Nahh i am not a heavy drinker!

Maybe i have shit under my shoes?

Nah not this time!

Ahh it's the fucking cigarettes again

I smelled from the bottom to the head like i smoked cheese merged with smoked salmon that had expired a month ago!

Note that i don't smoke

Neither do my friends

And the Bar was an open one...

So how the fuck do i smell?

The answer is quite simple. The bar was crowed and 90% were smoking. In this situation there aren't so much to be done but in general every fucking time i am out, either that is called tavern, cafeteria, bar or club it's exactly the same. Before i start mentioning some types of smokers i regularly meet ( maybe in a part two if the post ends up too big) let's talk about what's the situation and how bad it is.

Normally and when i say normally i mean according to the law it's not allowed to smoke in a close space and in general in places were people work, that date back to 1856. Yes Yes it's true, but who gives a shit right? Because we are cooler that the other countries we earned first place in 2009 throughout the entire EU for highest smoking percentages.

How mad are you losers?

Because of that some people became furious and said we gonna make our country great again. They changed a little bit the law and made it harsher with more punishments but still nobody gave a shit or two. We are at 2018 and the law is even stricter with penalties of 500-10.000 euro if they just see someone smoking in a closed space.

The people behind that law were badass enough to say:

"hey fuckers the 4th time we catch you we gonna revoke your shop licence for 10 days and if we catch you one more it's gonna be forever baby!"

Although you may thing that each and everyone pissed himself with that kind of law exactly the opposite happened. Once again nobody gave a shit because yolo and because we like breaking the law to play it cool to others and earning a lot of money.  In reality all of this doesn't just happening because we are badass but actually because it's government's fault. (not entirely though but we have to blame them, it's tradition)

The law simply doesn't apply to mostly anyone. They never send people to control the situation and check if the shops actually apply the law and if they do so, they will send 2 people to check 50 shops. Guess what happens next. If the shop-owners don't already know those people and are friends, after the first visit in the first shop, phone calls to all the other will be made and for that short period of time they will apply the law but after a couple of hours let the party begin.

Even if someone follows the law and don't let the smokers who are the majority stay inside and smoke they will gladly go to the next cafeteria which next to his. Because nobody will check them and if so it will be one in 3-4 months they actually don't care to follow the law. Watching that first-seated the owner who follows the law will say ''fuck it'' and will abandon the law too in order to earn back his customers.

Tomorrow i will talk about the types of smokers you gonna meet, some of the answers and arguments i keep hearing from them either me or my friends and finally some ways to deal with them which will have a comic nature!

This is gonna be a new series of posts (hopefully) about things that concern me. The title will be My Problem With. I will try to address a problem but at the same time i will show no mercy and i may be slightly offensive but note that the content is meant to be funny and at the same time raise some awareness.

If what i am saying is considered sane and logic in your minds!

In my opinion this is another "education" issue that has rised because of the lack of respect from smokers to non smokers and reverse. All I know is that one's freedom stops where the other's begin.. And this is totally ignored.

i couldn't agree more

Really though, it boils down to basic decency. There's a time and place to smoke, and if they want to hurry to the grave they can go right ahead, just don't take us innocents with them. I hate smokers who don't give a damn about others.

Sorry I've missed out on a lot of your posts, man. I've been out because of life stuff, but I'm trying to get back to regularly steeming soon.

yes it's as simple as that and don't worry i was absent too :P :P

In the U.S. the no-smoking indoors practice is actually considered a local issue -- so local ordinances apply. (At least it used to be this way. It may have changed since I last kept track of this.)

But now where I live (New Mexico) there's no smoking in public buildings, or communal offices or hospitals (of course!!) or restaurants. (Bars and bowling alleys are exempt for some reason. The casinos may be also. I never go there so I'm not sure.)

Years ago, you'd hear smokers fuss about having to go outside (sometimes in the rain) in order to smoke, but never did they just blow off (no pun intended) the whole idea. In the very beginning, restaurant owners, etc., whined that the law would cause them to lose business. But in reality, they discovered their business actually increased -- as non-smokers (like my husband and me) started eating out again -- once we could be sure our meal wouldn't be ruined by some smoker sitting beside us.

Non-smoking is basically standard practice here -- which makes it a shock when we go to another state. (Especially Hawaii ... where it seems like 80% of the people smoke!!) Put that down as another reason we don't travel much.

I sympathize with you totally. And I wish you luck in getting the problem worked out.

and it's exactly as you say, if just the law is applied then it's benefit for cafe, restaurants and bars and in general the whole community and society! (but when we tell someone to cut something off they feel like we are attacking them so they must ''defend''

Καλά κι εσυ τωρα! υπερβάλλεις λίγο!! να πιεις ενα ποτάκι χωρίς τσιγάρο γίνετε;;; δε γίνεται!! :p

I understand the frustration of a non smoker in Greece, but I couldn't disagree more.

Some European Union asshole thought they could tell the Greek people what they can and can't do. The Greek people told that asshole to shove it up their ass. Personally, I think the smoking situation in Greece is a great example of people expressing their right to freedom.

If a business who follows the law and doesn't allow smoking can't attract customers, then I think that is the free market at work.

Smoking is bad and unhealthy, but adults should be allowed to make any decision they like, and business owners should be allowed to decide what those adults can and can't smoke inside their premises.

I don't drink, I don't like it, but when I go out and see people drinking and acting like drunk idiots I don't complain. I also wouldn't want the government to make drinking in private business illegal. If it was a big issue for me I just wouldn't go to places where people drink.

Ofcourse I am a smoker and you are non smoker so we are obviously going to disagree (:

hahaha the only reason Greeks in Greece don't follow the law is because nobody applies the law so they have no consequences, it's not like they are expressing their right to freedom :P the same ones when they visit another country they blindfolded follow the laws because they are afraid of the consequences. I have seen it a couple of times in my travels. the best one was in a ''third world country'' Bratislava where a friend of mine took a cigarette out saying ''fuck them''

A minute later a policeman came out of nowhere showing him a small sign in a back of a wall and told him either you pay the find of 20-50 euros something like that or you gonna gonna be held in the police station for a day :P

The ''fuck them'' directly became ok here the 20-50 bucks :P

If we can't apply the law i am not saying to prohibit smoking entirely but some easy measures like in a big club or cafeteria to have a separate space for smokers and not smokers or now during summer to say go outside and smoke i think it would be a great start.

Hahaha the part 2 i am gonna make today will be quite sarcastic :P so i hope you have no hardfeelings :P either way you have a great sense of humor. Now that i think of it you gave me an idea to make a sarcastic one by the smokers side :P
