Many of you will know exactly what I talk about, when I talk about chain messages. Those are the messages that states that you will either die, or get some dreadful disease if you don't forward the message to a certain amount of people in a certain amount of time.
Poor Billy Evans, if I receive a message like that, I will most likely ignore it, and the one above is a very silly example, BUT there are actually people who will forward these. It usually makes me think of the state the world is in, and what this world has become.
How gullible are people?
Are people really so gullible that they actually believe that they have to forward these messages to other people, because they are scared that something will happen to them? Or are there really so many bored people out there that they literally have the time to go and sit and type out a message like that? (They should come visit me, I will keep them busy.)
So where did chain messages originate from?
According to my Google search, chain messages or letters originated somewhere in the 1800's when a Methodist women's missionary group were having serious cash flow problems. They needed money to upgrade their facilities and while some of the group leaders prayed for assistance the others realized that they had to take some other initiative. Just before they all lost hope, a woman suggested that they arrange a letter that could generate an income.
They decided to try this, and send out 15 000 letters and asked for money. Even THEN these letters irritated some people, but there were many people that contributed to the cause, and it wasn't long before they received a total of $ 6000 dollars. So this time, you can literally blame woman for something.
Have you ever received a chain message on Facebook or on Whats app and then the information seems so farfetched that you actually had to go and do research to see if the information is correct? What totally blows my mind is that there are actually people that has the time to go and search for all these weird facts and put it together in a message.
This actually happened to me today, so I decided to do some research on the actual information in the message and share this with you:
True or false?
Did you know that a cat has 32 muscles in each ear?
Yip, this is true, it turns out a cat can twist and turn its ears towards sounds, while dogs only have eighteen and humans only have six muscles.
Did you know more people are attacked by cows than by sharks?
Cows may look innocent, but they kill five times more humans that sharks do.
A crocodile can not stick out its tongue
Due to a membrane that keeps the tongue intact, a crocodile can not stick out its tongue.
A goldfish has a memory of 3 seconds( My memory is like that)
Apparently this appears NOT to be true. After extensive research it seems like a goldfish's memory can last for up to five months.
A shark is the only fish that can blink with both eyes.
Perhaps not to see you when he eats you!
A snail can sleep for three years( I wish I was a snail)
Yip, this one appears to be true as well. Some snails can sleep for three years in a state of hibernation. They bury themselves in the ground and then close their shell with their own slime.
There are more chickens than people on earth
This appears to be true. The ratio for chickens to humans is 1:3.
So there you have it! Not all messages are true, but sometimes there are some interesting facts that you can learn while reading some of these crap messages, because face it, even though it is a chain message, we all still read them.
Ribbit!

I've noticed that I usually get these from women much more than men. I guess this connects a few dots.
Men are still winning on the fantasy sports team invite spam, though.

Yeah, I have friends that are still waiting on their $1,000,000 from Bill Gates for forwarding an email. And what's with the Facebook posts that imply that you like a particular disease if you don't share your dislike of it?! It's been going on for centuries in one way or another. I ignore them all! Other than fun facts like you just shared ;)

hahah so good! chain-mails are literally now an ancient relic of the past. I remember coming across my first one about 12 years ago being a young age... but even then it's so clearly a bunch of bs ;) I miss those days though. very entertaining.
