Last Friday, the Universe gave me the job of picking up someone's shredded severed finger from a pile of wood shavings. I certainly cannot speak for the trauma received by this co-worker and friend who lost much of 1 finger, and nearly 2 others. But somehow and for some reason, this event has profoundly affected me and all of us at the shop.

Anyways, one way we are dealing with it is with some lightness! I was greeted with this note from my brother when I got to work today! (He was not in the shop when the accident happened.)
(The note had the person's first and last name.)
Otherwise, its probably going to be all weird in the shop for weeks to come. We're being hyper-paranoid about tools and "doing things right." Maybe too paranoid, but it'll settle down.
B"H, our injured friend is also doing pretty well. Of course it's a struggle, but he is trying to stay positive and make lots of jokes too. With less than 10 fingers, now that he's even farther away from "normal," he's got to crack some jokes to make up for it! Jkjk!

Sometimes the universe makes an example for the rest of us because it feels we will make far graver mistakes. Glad he lost only that much and hopefully he will be the better and not the lesser for it.

That's a great way of seeing this. I think it even applies to the individual who actually was in a given accident, not just a sign post for everyone else.

Well, he came in to pick up a few belongings and give us an update, but it's going to be at least a month or two before he thinks seriously about working. Until he is healed just enough, then gets bored or stir crazy I figure.
