Monty Python's LIFE OF BRIAN is a Masterpiece, and was Far Ahead of its Time (video link in post)

Addressing such strikingly current issues as "the gender debate," anti-semitism, and government/political action in general, the Monty Python crew's hilariously ironic and unforgiving take on modern religious ignorance and bloodthirsty "civilized" human tribalism is not to be missed!

After watching an old interview from British TV where a church pastor tells John Cleese his film is "tenth rate," and an insult to the true "gospel story" of christianity, I had to watch myself.

The interview I reference can be seen here:

Cleese and his co-creators maintained that the film was designed to make people laugh, think, and to poke fun at religion and blind followers of such belief systems.

After watching, I can confidently say that in my opinion, it is one of the most brilliant films ever made.

Let's examine how the film, released in 1979, seemed to uncannily predict the raging "scandalous" debates that are dividing the MSM/Facebook-false-dichotomy-bi-partisan consumer society even now in 2018.

The gender debate.

Check out the following clip from the film:

I was blown away when this scene came up in the film. Who could have guessed that the societal division and political correctness the actors are poking fun at in this scene would end up inflated to the proportions they are today.

The ignorance of "blind faith."

A perfect example of how the messages of so many wise souls get mixed up and then turned into religious dogma by stupid people:

IT'S A SHOE!!!

NO! IT IS A SANDAL!!!

People pretend to care and be so serious and loving, but the most "religious" are usually phonies who will desert you in the end.

This is the scene where Brian's "best friends" and league of fellow Jewish revolutionaries finally take action to save him after being scolded by Judith, another member, for being all talk. They rush out to the crucifix to "save him," and this is how they do it:

For those interested, the full film can be viewed here.

I highly recommend it.

As a huge monty python fan, and as someone who has been watching this film yearly since high school, I fully agree with everything you said and everything you probably will ever say on the issue (as long as future me agrees to this).

Oh, and that interview is good too. I watched that a few years ago after watching a different interview in which Cleese said that interview was the only time he had ever seen Palin get angry. haha funny how religious people have a way of making even the nicest and funniest people angry. I should watch that again here in a little bit when my boy goes to bed.

HaHAh! I figured you would be a fan ;)

hah is it so obvious?

That's because Monty Python's style of comedy is very anarchist & surreal, which is also my favorite kind of comedy.

Brilliant movie. The part that resonates with me at the moment is when they are all sitting around 'Reg' debating how they are screwed by the system while she shouts that they aren't actually doing anything about it.
So many great exposures of the stupidity of life sometimes.

I can imagine how the church has reacted when that movie first came out. Even though things had smoothened a bit recently they are all hiding behind the term religious freedom while restricting real freedom of speech for everyone who is not in their team

Great movie

@kafkanarchy84,

Salutations! JaiChai here.

Loved that flick.

"...and what the Hell have the Romans done for us lately?"

LOL!

Namaste, my friend.

BTW, I wanted to start a religion for tax purposes, but L. Ron Hubbard beat me to it!

Haha! Damn Scientologists!

Cheers, @jaichai.

oh I haven't watch The Life Of Brian in ages, it is one of my favourites and so very relevant today and yesterday really shows how far we have come with regards to segregation in this great world of ours. Thanks for reminding me will have to watch it again later when the girls are asleep. x

Ah I grew up on Monty Python - comedy at its best. And John Cleese looks like my dad, which is bloody hilarious - same weird sense of humour too!

This is Monty Python - all of the films are genious!
If you're in the mood for something to continue the ride after watching Life of Brian - check out the Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky. You'll love it if I had to guess. 👍

I highly recommend it too.
or maybe even, 3, 4, 5, 10... lots

History teaches many things. Reading your post I knew many things. Thank you very much for sharing this post with us. I love your post really it impressed me. it also fascinating for us.

Interesting. What did you learn?

Hoho ...ahhhhh

It is funny but making a joke out of people's religion or belief is not fair. It can cause religious war, trying to prove a point about the wrong with making a joke out of their belief ain't right. Just saw the videos you posted they were funny though.

If someone starts a war because they are offended then they are an idiot, which is exactly what this movie is talking about. I think it is totally fair to exercise free speech.

Everyone should have a write to say whatever he or she wants. Some years back when an American drew a comic character about Prophet Mohammed, the Islamic community got raged, to you it is a stupid thing to do but to them it is an insult. I am an open minded person, everyone can't be like u or me who see things normal. Try and understand what I am trying to say and give me my bloody upvote lol. For @kafkanarchy84 is a jolly good fellow, for @kafkanarchy84 is a jolly good fellow, for @kafkanarchy84 is a jolly good fellow and so say all of us at Steemit

Everyone can’t be non-violent when someone says words they don’t like?

Then they need professional help ;)

I understand what you are trying to say: that I should censor my opinions and speech for the comfort of others so they don’t become violent.

Your bloody upvote? Hah.

Well Faith In God is one of the most important facts of our life.
We Should keep it clean and clear,
As far as that Shoe is Concern People are foolish not the one who mistakenly leave that shoe.

Wow much better and brilliant post thanks for sharing

What do you mean.

Well talking about the rights of woman's and men's. They both have some rights That should be respected.

like a person want to have babies, he has a right of marriage to pursue is desire.
like is for woman.

Link to the film is good

to be fair they did have trannies in the 70s

Someone just put a shirt on that man!

They did, it's around his waist.
