My mother never wished me
happy birthday exactly at midnight
as my friends did nor had I wished
her at that time.
The persons wishing me
at mid-nights changed with each passing years
but the first person to wish me when I woke was
always her.
So one day I thought of wishing her at midnight,
got the cake and planned to surprise her.
At midnight went to her bed woke
her up, she seemed surprised as she
didn't exactly remember it was her
day. Rubbing the eye, looked startled
seeing candles glowing on the cake.
Dad too woke and just remained silent.
My mom in kind of sleepy way blew the candles
and Dad clapped the hardest but I got tears. It took me
23 years to make this midnight.
It felt something else.
