The whole point of me writing this post is to let you know that you are absolutely not alone - we all experience awkward situations that we so badly would have wanted to avoid. Unfortunately, that is just the way life is. Therefore, lets just embrace the awkwardness of it. We can all just have a laugh at it instead of cringing by the thought of the many many times we felt awkward and uncomfortable! Also, I will try my best to give you some tips on how to make the awkward situations less awkward (Yet, I can't promise anything ;))
When you can't remember a person's name. It is sooo embarrassing, when someone you don't know too well passes you on the street, raises their hand and says: "Hi Michelle (That is my name, I don't hope that anyone would call you that if your name is Jeff....), how are you?", and you are just standing there, taking form as a big question mark, because you simply can't remember their name. I feel like the worst person on the planet. Therefore, I always answer (also if I do actually know their name) with "hey you". To me "you" is just an overall good way of referring to people when talking to them. And since I am literally the worst at names, it has helped me avoid so so so many awkward conversations.
This is kinda like the one above: when people stop you on the streets, and asks how you are and says "Oh, I remember when you were just a little kid", and you just stand there feeling stupid because you have absolutely no idea who they are. Yet, they know everything about you, your childhood, your favorite color and how you sneeze. To avoid making it awkward, you just have to play along and answer of their questions. Instead of asking them about how they are, just ask them what they are up to at this very day and other basic questions that won't involve them telling about their life.
When you spill a drink on yourself in front of people. I must admit, I do this all the time. Just play it cool, laugh at it. It happens to all of us.
When you fart in public. I am sorry, but there is not much to do. It will always be awkward. Sadly.
When someone catches you having a little dance session in your house. Don't let anyone take the moment away from you. JUST DANCE.
When you fall. I did this while being interviewed by some random person on the street. He dropped his pen, and we both wanted to pick it up, but we hadn't noticed that both of us was trying at the same time to pick it up. Our heads smashed together, and I am not kidding when I say that I fell hard on the ground. it hurt really badly. So.... I just lay on the ground in front of a huge crowd. And because of who I am as a person, I just started laughing really hard. That moment was literally the story of my life..... I got up and told him that the would be the only one of us to laugh at this the same night, because it was so embarrassing, and that I wouldn't, since it happens to me all the time. So... just laugh it off.You have no reason not to.
Then you clothes is inside out. We are human. Except that you make mistakes.
When you walk into someone. Just be polite and apologize. I do this, and by a mistake I walked into a mannequin thinking that it was a person, and I apologized. I got laughed at. Damn it...
When you have to ask the person you are talking to to repeat themselves several times, because you can simply not hear what they are saying. Explain that you can't understand it, laugh and just move on with the conversation and take control. In this way you won't have to keep on asking and making things even more awkward.
The awkward silence during conversations. Just take a look around and find something to comment on. The weather. Anything will be better than silence. Seconds feel like ages.
Though: While writing this post, I truly realize how awkward I am, or at least how many awkward situations I am put in.
When you meet someone that you are no longer friends with or an ex. Play it cool. They don't know what you are thinking. They are most likely feeling the same way you are about the situation. Act confident.
Meeting someone for the first time. Just smile and laugh, it will fix any bad situation.
Sending a snap or message to the wrong person. Just sedan innocent snap back saying "Whoops". Nothing more. Less is more.
Sending a screenshot of a conversation the the person, you had the conversation with: RUN! HIDE!
When you wave back at a person waving at you. Or at least you thought it was. It was for the person behind or besides you. Just act like you were waving at the person behind THEM. Then it will make THEM feel awkward. Problem solved.
Even the most awkward situations can be fixed. Own them and never forget to laugh at yourself. It makes life better - and funnier !
These are great!! It is almost as though we need to be aware that we are all going to have one of these situations happen to us and we then find that all of us are awkward beings. :)
