It was created by Mike Judge, who later wrote and produced the television series King of the Hill and the film Office Space. The series greatly influenced the language of the American youth of the 90s.
Beavis and Butt-head began as an animated short by Judge for the Spike and Mike Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation. This short, called "Frog Baseball", was emitted by the independent section of MTV Liquid Television.
Characters
Beavis and Butt-head are two students whose life is summed up in watching TV, eating junk food (usually nachos), drinking soft drinks, going to malls, heavy metal, and trying to "score."
-Butt-head
He has an appliance on his teeth and has small eyes. He speaks with a nasal voice and often interposes between phrases "uhh ...". He's calmer than Beavis and looks like the leader of the two, usually pick ob Beavis. Mike judge got the idea for his name by two guys calling themselves "Iron Butt" and "Butt-head" when he was a student.
-Beavis
Usually grunts when he laughs, and has a somewhat throaty voice. He is the most nervous of the two In the early chapters he was obsessed with fire. It has an alter ego called The Great Cornholio, in which he is usually transformed after taking a lot of sugar or caffeine. At first he was going to be called Bobby Beavis, as a kid from the neighborhood of Judge, but eventually he stayed as Beavis.
-Tom Anderson
He is the elderly neighbor of Beavis and Butt-head. He often orders them to do work and they destroy the house or their belongings. Because of his myopia since he is senile he never recognizes them and rarely remembers their names. He served in the navy during World War II and the Korean War.
-David Van Driessen
A professor at Highland High School and apparently the only person who cares about Beavis and Butt-head. He is a hippie, he usually teaches them lessons in life that usually end up in disaster, because they misunderstand the message, in some early situations he ended up dead. He teaches biology, art, health, history, literature and some more.
-Bradley Buzzcut Coach
Another teacher. He is quite the opposite of David Van Driessen. Grumpy and badly spoken, he is a retired Marine and hates the duo more than any other character, with the possible exception of director McVicker.
-Principal McVicker
Director of Higland High and archi-nemesis of Beavis and Butt-head. They have ruined his life and taken him to madness. Many episodes begin with both in his office.
-Daria Morgendorffer
Daria is a sarcastic girl who likes alternative rock. She goes to the same institute as the duo and is one of the few people who sees them as they are and sometimes offers advice, seems to respect them more than other characters. They usually call her "Diarrea" and had a series called "Daria" in which she was protagonist.
-Todd Ianuzzi
Todd is guy in his mid-20s , tough arrogant, pimpy and violent. Beavis and Butt-head admire him and dream of entering his street band. Todd despises them, but he listens to them when he needs something, like money, or when he needs to hide from the police or other bands.
-Stewart Stevenson
A bass boy who believes that Beavis and Butt-head are his best friends, although they do not think so.
Episode
One episode of the series typically consists of Beavis & Butt-head making juvenile remarks while watching music videos. In the middle of the videos, stories advance by involving the duo in adventures and problems both at home and at school. Objectives for their carnal mood include all kinds of authority, the life of high school and even themselves. What really characterizes Beavis & Butt-head is that they are obsessed with scoring and are a bit mentally retarded.
-Butt-head seems a little smarter and calmer than Beavis, the latter being prone to hyperactivity attacks, becoming the famous "Great Cornholio." Butt-head is unconsciously more subtle, while Beavis is unconsciously more obvious.
Characteristics
The sarcasm and stupidity of the duo gave American teenagers a plethora of new terms in slang, including "buttmunch", "fartknocker", "bunghole", "cornhole", "turd burgler", "ass munch", "ass wipe "," ass goblin "," TP "and" spank the monkey ". In the first episodes the young duo had an obsession with fire and dangerous, "risky" behavior. The series were blamed for numerous child deaths as a result of the fire and its tricks, and thus were replaced only by silly scenes, easy jokes, etc. MTV also took the measure of issuing the show after 11:00 PM, and adding a notice alerting parents that the show was not child-friendly.
Other series
Beavis & Butt-head, along with other (discussed) dominant series like Ren & Stimpy and The Simpsons, pushed the limits of the series of American cartoons to make material completely clean only for small children. While some said it was rude, it offered a concise social commentary and a terrifyingly accurate portrait of American reality for some. Some critics actually say that it is a satire of the same MTV. Beavis & Butt-head, discuss, are a clear example of children who have become idiots by staying home doing nothing but watch music videos all day. Because they are guided entirely by MTV, they are unable to adapt to social life, and (especially) are unable to find a girl.
Further
Beavis & Butt-head's parents are never showm, except for a small part in the film, in which Beavis & Butt-head find themselves with a similar (but larger) version that tells them they "scored" with prostitutes in the hometown of Beavis & Butt-head. Fans believe they are in fact, the biological parents of Beavis & Butt-head, or that only one, the voice of which is dubbed by David Letterman (which does not come out in the credits), is the father of the two Step brothers).
