I don't normally go on Twitch, but today I stumbled across this video from something called the Pokémon World Championship (Yeah, apparently that's a thing..).
[Pika--oh, f^@k!.. hahaha!] src
So the Pokémon Company held an international World Championship of.. um..all things Pokémon this past weekend. Trainers from all over the world competed in videogame PVP matches, as well as trading card competitions to see who could.. catch'em all.. or something like that.
When it came down to handing out the prizes, Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara was invited onstage to present the finalists with their Pikachu themed trophies. Runner up in the junior division for the Pokémon Trading Card Game was Isaac Terceira.
Little Terceira was the first to be called to collect his prize. Striding out on stage in his fantastic Pokémon-themed outfit, Isaac is met with cheers from the audience and rising orchestral accompaniment. Mr Ishihara hands the poke-fan the trophy and it immediately falls apart as the recipient clutches it to his chest.
I don't know what made me laugh harder, the audience change from cheers to laughter interspersed with gasps and "nooo's, the look of dread on Ishihara's helpless assistant, or Terceira's mixed stare of confusion, despair, and umbrage. and to top it all off.. the announcer just says.. "CONGRATULATIONS!" and carries on.
For me, I think it's hilarious that one of the biggest companies in the world would provide their diehard fans with something so ridiculously flimsy. I'm glad it broke.. what an embarrassment.. a fucking funny one at that.
You can watch the clip in it's entirety below..
