Today I live in sunny Florida, but until I was an adult I lived in the midwest right smack in the middle of the snow belt. There was never a lack of snow for winter sports and we took full advantage of it. As soon as we woke in the morning we would tune into the news and either cheer or groan depending on what the weatherman said. We would listen with intent as the list of school closings was read off. If school was closed due to snow, we made plans to head out as soon as Mom would let us. We had sleds with runners, saucer sleds, toboggans and cardboard boxes, garbage can lids and anything else that looked like it would slide.
We would stay out until we were too cold or until we were called for lunch. We ate like animals after a sledding session, like we hadn't eaten in a week. The cold and the exertion took alot out of you and you had to replace the calories burned with hot soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
It has been years since I have been sledding and I would go right now if the opportunity presented itself. Indeed it has been years since I have even seen snow. I found this compilation of sledding clips that I call 'Too Cool For A Sled' in honor
of my many wipeouts during my years in the snow.
The premature mount
The midslope dismount
The invisible mount
The airborne faceplant
The I'm too tired to mount
Last but not least is an honorable mention to the blonde trying to bring back the fabulous feeling of winter with her
Igloo in the mud mount
To the best of my knowledge no children, dogs or blondes were harmed during the filming of these clips.
