Just 9 months ago steem had zero new account registration for almost 2 days.
In the last 45 days alone about 100,000 accounts has been added into the Steem blockchain, and the rate is increasing rapidly.

yup, we do need to get the intake speed up, and find a better way to get the new recruits onto the Steemit koolaid (aka blogging&posting dopamine hit) asap.
also hope the transition to hf20 will be smooth considering the big code changes for smt and the likes.
it would be interesting to see how 80-100 witnesses (and even less nodes) can handle 1 million active users (we're already seeing some node issues with steem.supply, steemd, steemdb, and other apps connecting at just 65K active users daily) and yet we are still at 1% blockchain capacity or usage according to blocktivity.
i believe that eventually we probably need to up the witness incentives so more witnesses will benefit vs today's concentration. Say change the top witness block produces from 20 to 50, 40 to the top 40 witnesses, and give 10 to be shared by remaining top 200 witnesses. This greatly incentives more tech savy Steemians to become witnesses and improve performance of Steem.
