Explaining Cryptocurrency To People Who Could Not Give A Shit About CryptocurrencysteemCreated with Sketch.

I know what you are thinking, alright nerd, I don't care about your P.O.W. and your decentralized this and how it is such a cool new tech. I get it. You only have two question: Is it illegal and can I buy shit with it? The first answer is no (except in some countries like Bangladesh, Bolivia, Kyrgyzstan). The second answer is yes but it is, at the moment, some work. You have to trade the steem for bitcoin and then you can sell the bitcoin for cash. There are also more and more placing starting to accept bitcoin for example steam is accepting it. Soon steam might accept steem, that won't be too confusing :p

What else do you need to know? Think of it as these three things. You have a bank account right? You go on the screen and see a number with a $ beside it. You don't have the money in your hand but it is there digitally and when you need it you can get it. Bam, you know enough about digital currency. Number 2, have you exchanged money? Your American dollar is worth more or less in another country. As one steem is worth about .70 USD and one bitcoin is worth a shitload of USD (you will need a calculator for a shitload :p). Different places take different currency and you need to exchange it when you need to spend it. Done. And lastly the fact that the price goes up and down. You know how stocks work. If good shit is being said about the company the value goes up and with bad rumours the value goes down. It depends on speculation. Now combine digital money, with exchange and speculation of a market and you know enough to get by.

That's all you need to know. Yes it is a lot more complicated and it is pretty cool but if you don't give a shit, then this post is for you. Post your stuff on steemit, earn some steem, keep it until the value goes up or exchange it for bitcoin and buy shit.

Any questions?

This is exactly how I explained it to a boomer-banker friend of mine Friday night!

See, that is all you need :p

Useful information for non techy bloggers! Much information being shared with all our new members lately! I just write a blog explaining our overcomplicated wallet :-)

Nice, that is important as well. This was just a joke/write-up for people who could care less and want to make money for their content. They don't need to overcomplicate things, just post and earn.

It's how I started with all of this. Just write and after a while, check how I can get some bitcoin. It's a great place to start :-)

Great article here.

I tell people about Bitcoin and Steem and the usual response is "who created it?" and they focus on that as the reason to not trust Bitcoin. I simple ask them, who created those dollars you are depending on so much for a living? They say the United States government. Wrong, I tell them. I tell them it is the Federal Reserve, not even a government agency but rather many banks - most of which are not even headquartered in the USA. Then I ask them who owns the Federal Reserve, to name just one bank involved.

They usually stop talking at that point.

I think it just comes with time like everything else. If you have been using cryptocurrency for years or grew up with it you don't question it. But as soon as something new and different comes along then you start to get all inquisitive.

people gotta find it for themselves yeah. you and i both did so they can figure it out themselves

Sites like this help.

People need to keep contributing good content and sharing experiences and what they learnt and yeah the community as a whole will grow. This reminds me of a young youtube back in 2005! lets see what happens in the next 12 years!!

Yeah I see a lot of potential here.

It took @rebelskum to prove it works but man am i a believer now

Awesome, it can take some time to get into it but it is really cool.

I loved the read.. enough said man, you owned it.

Thanks :)

Heheheh, not bad

:)

Hahahahaha. This post made my day!

Thanks :)

My mother is of Dominican decent and knows not even a little bit of technology. Explaining cryptocurrency to my mom is like talking to a wall. I think a wall will understand more then her.
