Eliminating RFI and EMI in your guitar rig

Good Morning Steemers!

I recently uploading a video on YouTube explaining the cause of interference and distortion in an electric guitar and amp rig. You will be surprised how much noise your computer can add to your home wiring that will be heard as an annoying static coming out of your amp.

I used to think there was something wrong with my vintage 1959 Fender Tweed Bassman until one day, by chance, I turned off my computer while the amp was on and the Bassman became quiet. It started my research into how I could eliminate the annoying noise. I finally realized it was caused by radio frequency (RFI) and electromagnetic (EMI) interference induced into the home wiring by my computer. There are many sources of interference like dimmers, refrigerators, LED lighting, fluorescent lighting, etc.

I show how you can solve the problem with a fairly inexpensive ($54) filtering unit made by Furman. There are many such devices on the market and you can spend up to or more than $1,000 for a more sophisticated unit. Another great unit that I might try in the future is the Tripp-Lite LCR 2400 for $259. It also regulates voltage spikes and brownouts.

I hope this helps you in your tone quest. Believe me, you will hear the difference in note purity and sustain once you eliminate the parasitic RFI and EMI waves riding on your guitar signal.

Later,
Stanley Steemer
