Welcome to the Future: Welcome to "The Teens!"

  It’s hard for me to tell you how excited I am about right now.  

We are living in a time of change that is unprecedented. 

Some eras are marked by gradual shifts; trends that take effect over a decade. The motor car did not immediately replace horses and trains. It took 50 years. This decade, no- this MOMENT is so brilliant and fluid and fleeting that I shame myself for not paying it proper attention.  I call this moment The Teens.  It’s a time of great and confusing and wonderful change.  

It’s a time where social mores and public institutions have disappeared or changed completely. Remember Blockbuster? 

Remember disposable cameras? Remember records stores? They are gone forever. 

But that was last year’s news. This year’s news is fake and conspiracy theories have turned out to be conspiracy fact.  

Celebrities become celebrities by getting a sex change. 

White men are shamed for being white men. 

Halloween is now “cultural appropriation day”. 

School and university shootings seem more prevalent despite being designated safe spaces. 

The most popular YouTube channel is a goofy Scandanavian playing video games.  

Digital hygiene is as important as personal hygiene... Or at least it should be. 

 On the surface, in your daily routine, things might seem normal. You get in your car, get coffee, go to work. Just like most of us have since the 50s. The stereo is better, the ride is smoother and the coffee is just a bit more expensive. The music isn't as good. The traffic is worse. There are still potholes. Kids go to school, go to college, get jobs, and raise families.    

      No more. 

Those things are going to disappear in the next instant. **Just like Blockbuster and disposable cameras and record stores, you wont notice them go.** It wont take a generation or a decade or the term of a president. It will happen automatically, and faster than you have ever seen change.

Self driving cars  

Artificial Intelligence  

Private rockets to the moon and widespread satellite internet  

Distributed power grid/ renewable energy  

Blockchain and cryptocurrency  

Quantum computing 

Distributed democracy/ separatism movements on top of pervasive globalism 

These will change the way we live forever. They will change the very structure of the way we live our lives, earn a living and engage socially. If I have a child right now, he or she (or xi?) will probably make a living doing something that hasn’t invented yet.    

We are in a time of incredible change. It’s like puberty on top of learning to drive on top of getting a job on top of leaving home and going to college.
