Shenzhen: The Silicon Valley of Hardware

in future •  8 years ago  (edited)

This is a great documentary on the city Shenzhen, China. An upcoming soon to be the next big Silicon Valley for China. This new Silicon Valley mainly focus on hardware since China is known for manufacturing at really low cost. This is the place for Makers to flourish and their prototypes to finish product. There is also a lot of background on open source hardware. This is Shenzhen reinventing 35 years of innovation.

I don't have time to watch the whole documentary now but C.H.I.P. was produced there :) Will come back to the video later.

I actually bought a C.H.I.P, the first $9 computer. Still waiting to receive it.

My Pocket CHIP arrived a few days ago (Australia) but the screen has a line of dodgy pixels.... waiting on them to get back to me.

that sucks, im sure they will replace it. how long does the battery last?

Yeah, they are a bit inundated with things atm and have not replied for 3 days. If it gets to a week I'll email them again. I've not re-charged the battery yet and I've spent about a hour and a half on it including syncing with a arduino

I've been to Shenzen and I've heard that the city is only like 20 years old. Already looks like a metropool, new city's are popping up in China, it is insane!
