Today I wanted to think about the ever developing world of AI and its impact on society. Neural networks, machine learning and everything tied into this web of complex digital intelligence is starting to shape into various use cases. After thinking about this a little I wanted to think about what else AI will start dipping into and it got me thinking about media creation. We have already seen MSN replace their journalists with AI to rank highly on SEO and simply regurgitate trending topics. An AI that writes, it’s an interesting concept I must say but what else could an AI create in the way of media entertainment?
Perhaps in the future we may see other forms of AI created written pieces become the norm that some might enjoy. It sounds scary but an AI with access to massively large datasets might be able to construct a story or script that would align with the masses through analysis and AI driven content creation. I am not saying the next Harry Potter will be written by computers and humans will eat this content up as gold dust but there is a chance that AI technology will begin to produce content that is ‘good’ enough for consumption in the near future. A simple example would be story generation for children. We might ask a child about what they would like to hear about today before bed. Inputting a criteria to include dragons, Mars and a rabbit might create a bizarre yet unique story completely written by AI. It may even be possible to adapt text and stories for different age ranges and language levels in the future.
At the back of my mind, I have always wondered if AI created music would make it to the charts. Sure enough a couple of years ago this popped up. You can search this up on Google or Youtube, there are AI generated pieces of music. Is it good? Well, I don’t think it’s amazing but if you needed to whip up something for a video, game or other media piece, AI could fill in the gap and produce an original piece without having to hire composers. Scary, but a reality of the future in my opinion.
