MOON DUO - Circles (2012)

Pitchfork really liked this album when it came out if that matters to you. I've been aware of them for a while, mostly because a couple of friends of mine have told me I should check them out. They even played the small venue/bar I used to work at, and I didn't go. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with me.

Here's a quote from the Pitchfork review:

On their Ralph Waldo Emerson-referencing latest album, Wooden Shjips guitarist Erik "Ripley" Johnson and keyboardist Sanae Yamada seem anxious to bolster their sound while still remaining sinister, groovy, and far-and-fuzzed-out.

It's definitely fuzzed out, in a great way. There's often a very solid beat behind the songs. I'll liken it to Krautrock instead of disco because I'm sure that's what they were going for anyway.

From Metacritic:

The second full-length release from the San Francisco-based duo of Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada was inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson's essay of the same name.

If it gives you some reference, Ripley Johnson is also in Wooden Shjips.
