In a grave threat of extinction, the last white male rhino is gravely ill which has put the future of white rhino in danger. Only three white rhinos are alive and two of them are females. Last year, Sudan was in the news where the rhino was declared by Tinder app as the most eligible bachelor in the world in a campaign to raise funds to save this species.
At 45, the ill rhino lives at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya with two female northern white rhinos -- Fatu and Najin. They are the last three northern white rhinos.
The last hope for this sub-species is that the two female conceive with this rhino. But the male rhino's ill health is a cause for concern as experts scramble to ensure the subspecies does not go extinct.
"We don't think he will last for much longer," Elodie A. Sampere, a spokeswoman at Ol Pejeta told CNN
Euthanasia will be explored if we feel he is suffering too much and won't recover," Sampere said.
"We do not want him to suffer unnecessarily. Right now he is still feeding and walking around ... albeit very little."
