Lots of smart stuff in here. Particularly important is that Kevin McCarthy had an especially slim party majority that made him susceptible to a tiny number of knuckleheads in a way that he wouldn't have been with a larger majority.
There's lots to criticize the GOP for, but it's worth keeping in mind that he only lost 8 of 221 Republicans, less than 4%.
If he'd had a historically normal majority, he'd have been fine.
As to the question in the headline, Gaetz won all that he cares about: attention and the ability to wreck things.
He doesn't care about governing, but he will not be ignored.
