“Follow your instincts. That's where true wisdom manifests itself.” Oprah Winfrey
A lot of people - especially in this data-first oriented age - spend WAY too much time overanalyzing every decision they make.
I often hear about this idea of paralysis by analysis. I not only hear this idea, I experience it on a regular basis and I'm sure that you do too.
Paralysis by analysis occurs when we give too much thought to a decision or action before taking it. It's when we put ourselves in a state of inaction because we can't stop thinking about what we want to do.
Thinking before acting is important and it's something that you should do before making any decision. You should think about potential outcomes and what not.
But there is a point - a line in the sand - where you spend too much time analyzing and too little time actually doing the action.
Action speaks louder than analysis. If you always analyze and never act, then you'll run into a lot of problems in your journey of life.
An essential skill for everyone in this information and data age is the ability to quickly analyze a situation and the potential outcomes, find the best course of action and then quickly take action in that manner.
It's really not that complicated, it's actually quite simple.
It can be hard though to balance action based on instincts AND planning.
Your subconscious mind (a.k.a. your instincts) is where your most powerful processing power lies. It's where analysis happens at such a deep level that your conscious mind cannot even fathom the amount of connections and neural firings that are going on.
That's why acting on instinct is also essential to this whole equation and it also needs to be balanced in with analysis.
As with so many other things in life, balance is king and it is going to take a while for you to learn how to balance individual actions for yourself. It's all subjective, but you need to spend the time and energy acclimating to it!!

I used to be a perfectionist and even after working on something for weeks or even months, wouldn't release it because it wasn't good enough in my eyes. This was seeded in fear of failure and the need to appear competent to my peers, I have since trusted in a 'good enough' approach where I set specific goals about whatever it is that I'm working on, give it a once over, and release it. When it comes to instincts, part of the trick is to be able to trust in yourself and not worry too much what other people think.

I use to act before thinking when I was younger but now I am older and wiser. Thanks for your words of wisdom.

Haha yeah, I think we are all plagued by those memories where we acted without thinking... It's easy to look back on how nieve we once were!

Eventually, a decision has to be made, and will be made for you in case of paralysis/analysis. It's better to trust your Inner Spirit/Guide, aka Holy Spirit on which way is best.
Great post.
Peace.
