This urban legend has been going around for as long as I've been going to Las Vegas.
Claim: Casinos pump extra oxygen onto the gaming floors to keep people energized and up-beat. This creates an atmosphere where gambler's will continue to be driven to gamble even more.
The legend goes that the Casino Windsor pumped oxygen or some kind of scent into the gaming rooms, making patrons gamble more. Apparently pumping oxygen or anything else into a casino to make people gamble would be a felony. There is the belief that this legend has its roots in a failed experiment in an Atlantic City casino, where a scientist asked permission to study the effects of different scents on patrons. The results were inconclusive.
One retired facility manger for MC; has said that this is is pure fiction and would violate about every fire code and insurance policy known to mankind. Oxygen is highly flammable, and if they were pumping it into casinos than the first time anyone ever lit a cigarette in any casino using this practice the entire building would have exploded.
However, there may be something else pumped in! Casinos definitely do pump in smells, which they believe encourage people to gamble more. They generally do not identify the smells; because they don't want to give away trade secrets. In the book "Elephants on Acid", there is an experiment where the gaming floor of the Las Vegas Hilton has a pleasant odor pumped in. It was observed that gambler's spent 45% more money at the machines than those who were not exposed to the odor. A lot of retail stores have also bought into the "smell sells" theory.
So in conclusion FALSE: There is a little truth to the lore or legend; but there are other things pumped in!
I knew it! Now where is my credit card?

"Legends" (or actualities) that make people not think are fascinating.
I recently heard something about Hillary and McCain, claiming they each have an ankle tracking bracelet. The cause is a medical boot they each wear, which people say are hiding the tracking anklets.
I just wonder why socks and pants aren't sufficient?
