How does investing work?
The game needs the bankroll so that players can place bets. If a player wins, the funds move from the bankroll to the player. If a player loses, the funds move from the player to the bankroll.

At YoloDice it's the investors that supply funds for the bankroll in exchange for shares proportional to their contribution.

Investor can open and close investment positions at any time. The moment an investment is opened, the initial investment amount is exchanged for the share in site effective bankroll with percentage equal to the ratio of contributed funds to the effective bankroll fund. When an investment is closed, the share is exchanged back for funds according to the current bankroll amount.

Note that percentage share does not need to be constant during investment lifetime. If other investments are opened or closed, the share of existing investments can be modified. In the examples however for simplicity we usually assume the share is constant.

Example

Site bankroll reads 80 BTC. John wants to invest 20 BTC. Once he opens the investment, his contribution is 20 BTC, and the whole bankroll equals 100 BTC. John's share is 20/100 = 20%.

During the next hours no other investments are opened nor closed, but the bankroll grows to 150 BTC due to players losing bets (i.e. site profit grows by 50 BTC). John's investment is still 20%, but it's value is now 20% of 150 BTC instead of 20% of 100 BTC a few hours earlier.

Johns decides to close his investment. 20% of 150 BTC gives him 30 BTC. The investment resulted in 10 BTC profit.

Well, one more thing. The moment John closes his investment, the game collects a commission on its profits equal to 35% of the profits. So John's profit is actually 6.5 BTC. 3.5 BTC goes to YoloDice staff to pay for servers, maintenance, various promotions for players etc.

The site collects 35% profits from all investments in the game. The collected commission is used to pay for servers, fund faucet, rakeback, affiliate program, occasional competition prizes. What's left is site owners' profit.

The commission is collected for each investment individually and takes place:

weekly, every Sunday evening,
when an investment is closed.
Commission is collected only from profits that have not been taxed before.

Example

Bob invests 10 BTC. The bankroll is now 100 BTC and his investment's share is 10%.

It's Sunday evening and some players have been extremely lucky and won some coins from the bankroll. Bob's investment is now worth only 8 BTC, thus its profit is -2 BTC. No commission is due.

A week later Bob's investment is worth 15 BTC. Its profit is 5 BTC, so 5 BTC waits to be taxed. 35% from 5 BTC is 1.75 BTC. After the commission run The investment is worth 13.25 BTC. Investment profit after the commission is 3.25 BTC.

A few days later the investment makes some profit and is worth 16 BTC and Bob decides to close it. The last commission taxed his profit for up to 3.25 BTC, now the profit is 6 BTC, so there's still 2.75 BTC to be taxed. Commission of 0.9625 BTC is deducted from the investment, which is now worth 15.0375 BTC. The investment is closed and 15.0375 BTC is credited to Bob's balance.

Note: before April 3rd, 2017 the commission rate was 10%.Before Jul 3rd, 2017 the commission rate was 20%.
