'DOOM' CELEBRATES 25 YEARS WITH NEW LEVELS FOR THE ORIGINAL GAME

That a saga of video games prevails active for a quarter of a century is not quite a feat at present. Today, Bethesda Softworks is celebrating 25 years of Doom, a title that forever changed first-person action games, to such a degree that today many of the genre's references continue to be inspired by their playable bases.

To commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary, the company launched a video tribute in which it makes a tour of the most important deliveries of the franchise, starting with the original title launched in 1993 and ending with the most recent of 2016. Who had not installed This game on your PC during that era? He became an icon of the industry and in 2005 he was taken to the big screen, without much success, though. Next the nostalgic material:

The editor took advantage of the material to promote the DOOM Slayers Club, a program that will offer free rewards, events and other content, both for Doom and Doom Eternal, the latter with a scheduled date for the following year. Besthesda mentions that the next 12 months will be known as the "Year of Doom", so they will surely announce other types of activities over the months. The celebrations do not end there.

John Romero, who along with John Carmack and Tom Hall participated in the creation of Doom, confirmed that the first delivery will receive 18 additional levels. It is an official mod to extend the solo and multiplayer experience. The content is called Sigil and will be available in February 2019 as a free download for PC. The creative describes him as the spiritual successor of the fourth episode, and adds: "I think that the people who play Sigil will recognize my design style, but they will see new things that I have done because this episode does not take place in a military base, but in hell, which is new to me in the design of Doom. "

The American developer says he works at Sigil since 2017 while on vacation or in the afternoon. "For me, doing this whole episode was a work of love and a reminder of all the incredible moments we had working on the original, I was lucky to be part of a great team and a fundamental game," Romero concluded.

Collection editions

For those interested in obtaining more than just a digital download, Romero will offer a couple of limited editions for collectors. The Standard Edition, with a price of $ 40, will include items such as a USB flash drive with megawad data, two discs with Buckethead Megawad soundtrack and two stickers

The Beast edition, of 166 dollars, includes all the above and other extras: special box signed by Romero, an illustration painted by the artist Christopher Lovell, a thematic coin of Sigil, a shirt and finally: a statue of Romero's head stuck in a spear. Yes, you read well, that's Doom.
