I read the books, so yes they screwed everything up, no question, they can't fix, just spit in Martin's face.
THE END
Or did they? Can we really say that with a certainty? All parties involved have been saying the stories diverge but end at the same point. So what exactly does that mean? Are events just completely different, or are they pretty much the same broad strokes just tweaked to be presented better for a television?
This is my take on it all. Right out the gate, I'll say yes they made alot of mistakes. This coming from a book "Elitist" so sit down, but I whole heatedly believe Dan and Dave(DnD from now on)have shown us quite a bit more of what's to come than we expect.
DnD had great vision when they went to Martin. After almost 20 years of attempts, they were able to accomplish what none had before them. See, they had a pretty easy job from that point. They had five almost one thousand page books as source material. First Winds of Winter release I remember was October 2015. There shouldn't have been an issue. They started because Martin said sure I have it out by then.
When they started, it was a near exact replication. I was ecstatic, but as time went on Martin came to realize he had been spreading himself too thin to finish, so he steps away from the show. The show must go on and it does.
Then at the end of season 6, DnD are kinda stuck. They have no source. They don't know when Martin is doing. They do the only thing they can, postpone the show. They were shooting what they could but holding off as long as possible. They were waiting for the books though for the details. I believe Martin told them a bit more than they get credit for.
You can see the timeline be a steady thing then when the show runs out of source material it's rushed. The first season had little to no cgi most episodes and are in my opinion best seasons. I'll dive a little deeper next blog. I'll explain some specifics like Jon being named aegon, dany losing a dragon, Euron and Cersei coming together, even Rhaegar and Lyanna together. That's just a quick list. Anyway have a wonderful night. See you all tomorrow

I thought you didn't watch the show?
Before I start I believe DnD did a great job as they brought people together and got us to discuss about it. I started following the series first and then read the books.
Yes they diverged a lot, but it happens a lot that series are contrained by costs and less indepth knowledge about characters, so they don't have that unlimited resource that you can put in a book.
I believe they messed up most by making the timelines more confusing, especially in season 7. Anyone can be anywhere the next time you get to see them. But I give it to them it's not easy making the series from books if there is no more material to go on.

I love it up til season 3 . And yes I did give up on it. I have been pretty active in the thrones YouTube community so even not watching Jed easy to say caught up. As odd as I feel saying it by the end I'll be defending DnD. Trying to get it all out there but on a single 4 mile long post lol

I like the show and love the books. Some plot lines were totally destroyed in the show which made we book lovers gasp in horror. Some of the blame has to go to GRRM for being so slow in releasing next book. It may not have saved what was ruined. Yet I still have to give D&D some props, even if just for production value.
It’s easy for us to bash them but how would you have handled an enormous production, casting, sets, costumes, etc.? And what parts of the epoch would you have edited out? If the entire story line was left in, Arya would look like Old Nan when it was finished .

Well that was everything I was thinking... Well stated.
Ser Bran... I love hearing your views on this. The producers are not worth bashing at this point. They have given us something remarkable... Whether we agree with every decision they make or no. As you have stated... So many people have rushed to discover the books. A girl can't really ask for more than that. So many Minds have been opened by the Wonder that is my favorite author.
