Gamers United Weekly Discussion Thread: Let's talk about competition!

in gamersunited •  7 years ago  (edited)

Welcome to the weekly discussion thread! That's more or less our goal. We want to set up an open mic that anyone can contribute to. And most importantly, this is a great way to get to know your fellow members!

Question! Question!

We all remember those late nights, those epic moments, those clutch plays at the right time that saved the day. Tell us about your favorite competitive moment! Were you playing, was it your friend? Your idol? Was it anything like this:

Or maybe it was something a little more chill but equally as epic. Tell us about it! This is your chance to tell the world about yourself and let us get to know you better.

This is my most memorable moment in League of Legends years ago. Do you know about this epic Xpeke backdoor moment he did back in 2013? So I was having an intense match during lunch break at my school with my classmates, the full squad. You know your game will get lit af when you're with your squad, especially when you're in the same room. So, we played so well, but our opponents were just as good. I was playing Kassadin against Zed on the mid lane.

In the late game, both our and enemy's turrets and inhibitors were destroyed. All it needed was a little mistake from one team and the other will likely win. We played so very carefully, not losing the war, not getting out-ganked, and we did good. The problem is... I was in school, and the lunch break was almost over. But we didn't want to lose. We were making so much noise, it was chaotic, people from other classes were watching us play from the window, and some even got into my classroom.

The bell rang, lunch break was over, the teacher came, and we haven't finished yet. So we played quietly. Until I remembered that old Xpeke clip. My friends believed in me, they retreated to the Nexus and played it safe, really safe, while I was sneak my way to the enemy's Nexus, and guess what, I did! Their Nami, Zed, and Cho'gath went straight back to their base and tried to take me down, but NO, my adrenaline-rush was far too high to make a mistake. Not even those 3--not even Zed's ult--succeded to kill me, and I won, precisely like in that clip, teleporting around the Nexus. The teacher was about 10 minutes in the class already, but we didn't care, we screamed so loud. 5 of us were grounded. Our laptops were confiscated, but it was worth it. I'll bring this memory to my grave. And maybe write this on the tombstone, somehow.

This is so awesome LOL. You sound like the sort of rebel that we at GamersUnited tend to be :D

Thanks for adding in your story - we love it when members (especially new ones - thanks so much for joining us!) chime in and engage. It helps our community grow and get to know one another better.

And damn them for confiscating the laptops! That should be a crime!

Our laptops were given back to us, of course, but it was our fault too for playing a video game during class... and scream lmao.

Thanks for having me, happy to be onboard!

Well that's... longer than I expected.

I'd have to say that one of my favorite competitive moments happened with me and my homies back on one of those days we were playing Super Smash bros Melee and we had hyped this match so bad because it was meant to be the clash of the two guys who were the both of us. We even made a video about it

But from my own experiences i'd like to say that one of the most rewarding moments in my competitive scene is when we were early buds on the Smash Tech but we were grinding on it and getting semi competitive. Turns out I had to deal with that guy who plays Capt. Falcon and we've always been rivals since then! Back then I played Ike and he played Snake on Super Smash Bros Brawl and that match was so intense because we were both on the same technical level but also on the mindgame one. I ended up losing to him on loser finals but it was still rewarding to get that far inside our own group! I still hold that memory near my heart!

I remember a late session of Counterstrike. Being the only member of my team still alive vs 3. Can't remember the map though, it was many years ago on a French server that I liked (I can't speak French!). And somehow coming out on top!

Hands shaking, severe adrenaline hit! Of course the next few rounds I was complete cannon fodder...

Ah, the dreaded adrenaline! It'll kill any semblance of skill you might have.

Sure will! You lose that sense of calm in the zone feeling!

My competitive gaming moments involve me sitting in my bedroom alone and playing a single player game slightly better than other people multiple years before me.

Any particularly memorable record breaking sessions?

Not much of a competitive player as such, but there has been a few standout moments.

I think it must have been Halo 2 on a map called Midship - but could have been Halo 3 as well, cause they reused the map.

Anyway, my friend and I are playing 2v2 CTF on this kinda small map, that is also very vertical.
But basically you can see and shoot from one base to the other, but getting there and back was a bit tricky, meaning the enemies had plenty of opportunity to shoot you.

For some reason one match, we're just dominating.
We secure the victory by me running to the other base, while my friend lays down cover fire and distraction.
I get the flag, bee line straight for the air lift, that will take me to the scoring zone. But it also leaves me right out in the open the whole time.

But the other team is not cooperating or whatever, so I manage to smack both them dead with the flag, and score for the win.

It was one of those times, where you're just completely in the zone, and basically playing super reckless because you're high on adrenaline :-)

Erm, I suppose one of my favorite moments in competitive Pokemon was when my Porygon took out all four of the Tapus all by itself!

My Porygon also took down Ash-Greninja and Mega Charizard X, so....IKUZE!!!

You know what? Go for it. It's not weird if it works.

Certainly never had a moment as epic as that one (the video on the post). Probably my most competitive/epic moment was playing Halo 4 Lone Wolf mode and went the whole match without dying and ranked up to brigadier general.
