Why Dead Space died

Owning the rights in the sport game industry, EA had found something which brings them millions of dollars every year as an income. When they had created Dead Space, EA could try something completely new and even go nuts, which they did.

Many developers which had worked by EA used in the Dead Space games, a way to express something what EA had forgotten to be. A company which is not only focused on money, but a company which is providing quality games and a company which is also concerned about their audience.

To be frank, Dead Space is leaned on Resident Evil 4, while Dead Space 2 is almoust a perfect copy of Resident Evil 4. Still a great game, I am wondering why Dead Space had not become a franchise with tons of new games released each year?

The micro-transactions charged by Dead Space 3, could have been a nail in the coffin. You have to think about this, for you to see the real ending of Dead Space 3, you had to pay the price of a full game as a DLC content. This had upset many people and loyal fans, also you got one recycled map from the previous games where EA changed the textures a little bit as a "bonus". All seemed to be a scam.

What killed Dead Space, was also the strategy of EA. Even with a bad publicity, the lack of horror elements and coop in Dead Space 3 and nothing inovative to bring to the table, EA had the target of minimum 5 million sold copies, or otherwise they would kill the series.

By this conditions it had been clear from the start, that no game will follow afterwords, which even might be better for the game itself. Consider Assassins Creed, where you get a new game every year, you will lose interest after a while. Assassins Creed seems tiered, nothing new was added, it is climbing, jumping and killing of targets from the very beginning. Dead Space had it much better here. It will be remembered at least as a good series, even if short lived.
