5th. Halo 3 (2007)
Why: The Halo series is unique. It brought together friends to blast each other in an epic space battle. When it comes to glorified multiplayer, Halo 3 is perhaps the best of the series, with a dramatic storyline replete with opera music cues and a tough character customization. Many titles continue to try to replicate what Halo did, but it simply cannot be matched.
4.) Minecraft (2011)
Why: Minecraft is one of the best-selling video games of all time, so you'd have to be living under a rock as a gamer to have never heard of it. You basically get to create your own world and do whatever you want in it. If you can imagine it, you can make it happen. The nice thing about Minecraft is that it is available on almost every platform, including smartphones. This game is great for letting your mind wander and becoming an artist.
3.) Super Mario 64 (1996)
Why: Mario is one of the most well-known games, but anyone can tell you that this is the best game in the series. Because this was the series' first 3D platform game, the game is unlike any of its predecessors.
It is a larger world than the previous ones, and the additional moves and jumps Mario can perform make the game more fast-paced and exciting. There are 120 stars in total, and the game has a lot of replay value. Mario platformers are still being made today, but none of them come close to this game's quality.
2.) Ocarina of Time from The Legend of Zelda (1998)
Why: Everyone has a favorite Zelda game, but Ocarina of Time encapsulates the best aspects of the lauded series. There is a massive world to explore, a magnificent score, and a truly remarkable origin story. The dungeons are not overly difficult, but they are intricate enough that you won't lose your cool if you can't figure out a puzzle.
1.) The Pokémon X and Y games (2013)
Why: It didn't seem to matter whether you were a kid or an adult with this franchise. Pokémon redefined what it meant to bring characters like Pikachu to life. They modernized handheld multiplayer gaming and transformed it into what it is today. X and Y is one of the newer titles, which is great because the game never gets tired of using the characters that adults grew up with.
