The film, in the boxes since 2017, is based on the Metal Gear video game franchise, created by Hideo Kojima. It was first released in 1987 on MSX2 and on NES. The script for the film is written by Derek Connolly. Avi Arad is the producer.
Prior to being Solid Snake in the movie Metal Gear Solid, Oscar Isaac appeared in several films. He was notably Poe Dameron in the last Star Wars. He also appeared in Drive, Ex Machina, Annihilation and X-Men: Apocalypse to name a few.
For the record, Oscar Isaac had declared in 2019 to be up for playing Solid Snake in a Metal Gear Solid movie. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts had said he was open to the idea. And that's where we are today.
Details are more than fuzzy on the film at the moment. We don't know the plot or the rest of the cast. To see now Sony will succeed in seducing fans of the Hideo Kojima franchise. It will be a risky bet because it has a lot of followers.
