Guild Wars 2 - stuff you don't need part 1

in games •  6 years ago

As I have mentioned many times before Guild Wars 2 is a fantastic MMORPG that you can download and play almost all of the content without paying anything. There is no monthly fee there is no cost to buy the base game. This is the best deal running as far as trying out new MMO's are concerned. I ended up paying nearly $40 to try Final Fantasy Online and in the end i found it incredibly boring. That being said GW2 is a good one and you don't have to buy anything... ever. However most people end up buying something. This is something you don't need.

Purchasable upgrades you don't need

So a big part of this game is salvaging the items that you get from enemies that you are not going to use on your characters and let me tell you, that is going to end up being a vast majority of what you end up with. Most of the "drops" from enemies are garbage as you would expect. When running around you are going to have to salvage things in your inventory, A LOT. The kits you can buy from vendors have limited uses, like 50 i think (it's been a while) and there are many types of salvaging kits that offer greater and greater chances of getting more valuable stuff from each item you salvage.

The Silver Salvage O Matic never runs out of charges but you must put money into it every time it is used.

you don't actually put money into it, it is automatic and takes it from your gold stash automatically. There is a really big problem with this thing and that is that the increased opportunity you have to acquire rarer materials (25%) isn't worth it. The "rarer" materials are mostly junk also and can't be sold (in most instances) for the amount of money that it costs to use this stinkin' thing.

This is not to be confused with the Copper Salvage O Matic, which is one of the most useful items in the game and it costs I think only 6 copper per use whereas the Silver Salvage O matic costs 10 times that much and mostly you end up with the same stuff in the end.

There might be some temptation to spend your very hard earned gems on this thing because it normally ends up being quite cheap and for good reason... no one who knows much about the game would ever buy it.

Basically I am just trying to save anyone out there some heartache of realizing that this item, which you might intially be happy to have in the game is performing a task that isn't necessary or even useful for most players and it is also slowly draining your toon's wallet without you even knowing. Just leave this one alone.
